Randy Orton and CM Punk have more similarities than some fans remember. Aside from being well-known wrestlers and former champions, they had likenesses even before they were part of WWE.
The Viper and The Straight Edge Superstar's characters are quite different from one another, and their current theme songs help their wrestling image. However, they briefly had their theme songs in common.
Orton began his WWE journey in 2000 as part of Ohio Valley Wrestling. He debuted on the main roster in 2002, mainly using Mercy Drive's Burn in My Light as his theme song.
However, in 2006, Orton used Killswitch Engage's This Fire Burns. A week later, he returned to using Burn in My Light. The Viper later began using Rev Theory's Voices in 2008 until today.

CM Punk debuted in WWE as part of OVW's roster in 2005. The following year, he joined the ECW brand. In his first appearance, he began using This Fire Burns, but in 2011, he transitioned to Cult of Personality by Living Colour.
The Voice of Voiceless also used the same theme song during his time in AEW from August 2021 until his release in September 2023.
Why did Randy Orton suddenly use This Fire Burns before CM Punk?
Aside from The Viper and The Straight Edge Star, Nexus also used this theme while Punk was managing them. From the looks of it, it was clear even from the beginning that the song fit Punk's character more.
Randy Orton previously said that he hated Burn in My Light, even with the alterations the company made over the years. He apparently told Vince McMahon that he disliked the song, and he was the one who recommended This Fire Burns.
They only played it for a few weeks before Vince decided it did not fit his character and gave Punk the song.
What are the recent reports regarding Randy Orton and CM Punk's involvement with WWE Survivor Series 2023?
Randy Orton has been absent from the Stamford-based promotion since May 2022 due to his back injury. There is heavy speculation he will return on Survivor Series 2023.
On the other hand, CM Punk's return to WWE has been heavily speculated. Fans believed the company has been dropping hints that he will return, but recent reports suggest it might not happen.
It would be interesting to see if Randy and Punk will gain more similarities in the coming weeks if they both return to WWE soon.
