The regular 30-man Royal Rumble that WWE hosts every year in January has the winner go on to have a world championship match at Wrestlemania. That is one of the biggest honors that WWE can bestow upon a talent. Winning the match is one of the biggest signs of faith that the company shows.
But when you have a Royal Rumble which boasts 50 competitors and is the billed as the 'Greatest Royal Rumble', shouldn't the wrestler who wins this be given a reward? Well, here are a few possible rewards for the winner:
A championship opportunity whenever he wants it
This seems the most plausible. However, because this isn't Money in the Bank, it does not make sense to allow the winner to 'cash in' a win like this whenever he wants. Instead, WWE can allow the winner to set a date and name a championship, and then he can get that match accordingly. This allows room for maneuverability, from a storyline perspective.
If Samoa Joe wins the Rumble and proclaims he will fight for the WWE Championship at Summerslam, WWE can tease constant tension for the champion, as he will always have this Samoa Joe challenge hanging over his head. The mind games that can be employed will be amazing and it will make for very interesting television.
The Number 30 spot in the Royal Rumble in January
This would be kind of deflating, considering beating 49 men should entail a larger prize. However, WWE lives in its own world, and a prize like this would probably make sense to them.
If the January Royal Rumble is the ticket to WrestleMania, then getting a chance to enter the Royal Rumble at number 30 should be the best way to stack the odds in your favor, right?
Even though using this Royal Rumble to set up another Royal Rumble, which happens 10 months down the line, may be a fail at utilizing the magnitude of the GRR, but it is an option nonetheless.
A guaranteed match at WrestleMania 35
Even though this makes it similar to the regular Royal Rumble that WWE hosts every year, WWE does have two world titles in the company. Even if the winner cannot challenge for the world title again, WWE has been pushing how important it is to get on the WrestleMania card itself.
Just like Ronda Rousey did this year, WWE should allow the winner to get on the WrestleMania card however they want
An example could be giving Daniel Bryan the win, and that he will go one-on-one with The Miz at WrestleMania 35. The Miz will not be able to avoid this match, and we can have a very long build for a match the WWE Universe is anyway dying to see.
These are just ideas in the wind, and it is genuinely intriguing to see if WWE do something meaningful with the winner of the Greatest Royal Rumble, and any of these paths are just one in a million ideas. Whether or not this will remain a glorified house show remains to be seen.
