WWE legend William Regal made a surprise appearance during the recent Premium Live Event, NXT Halloween Havoc. He appeared in a backstage segment with Lexis King.

King had been trying to secure a cornerman for his upcoming NXT Heritage Cup match but hadn’t succeeded. Regal appeared and praised Lexis for striving to establish his own identity, separate from the shadow of his legendary father, Brian Pillman. Regal then offered to be King’s cornerman for the upcoming match. Fans were thrilled to see William Regal back on television, with many wondering what the former King of the Ring’s role in WWE is now.

After a short stint with AEW, Regal returned to WWE in January 2023 as Vice President of Global Talent Development. He attends every show, takes notes on each match, and provides feedback to talent on areas for improvement.

Interestingly, Regal will be the cornerman for Lexis King in his NXT Heritage Cup match against Charlie Dempsey, who happens to be Regal’s real-life son.

William Regal shared an emotional message after WWE NXT's last show on The USA Network

William Regal played a crucial role on and off-screen in much of NXT’s success. Naturally, he became emotional as the show recently aired one last time on the USA Network before its move to the CW Network.

In a tweet, Regal thanked Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and everyone else who worked to grow NXT from a one-hour program on the WWE Network to a world-traveling show that created new stars and memories for fans. He expressed that being a part of NXT was the highlight of his 41-year career.

"I was part ( except for H’s family) part of the very begininging of @NXT . I’m still involved but not as much as I was. Thank you to H, Shaun , Matt and everyone else that fought the fight of making a one hour program on The WWE network to traveling the world and making new stars and memories for the fans. It continues today. Doesn’t matter what the colour scheme is or was, or has been, we changed the Wrestlng world although few will want to admit it. It’s been the best part of a 41 year career being @NXT to the core," Regal wrote.

It will be interesting to see if the Stamford-based company has any plans to use Regal in an on-screen role on NXT moving forward.
