When you think of animals being used to enhance a wrestler's character in WWE, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts' name will comfortably be the first one that pops up in every fan's mind.
Roberts became one of the most feared heels of all time thanks to his python, Damien, and while he terrorized his rivals in the ring, his reptilian friend was also a menace behind the scenes.
Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake spoke to Wrestling Shoot Interviews and opened up about how other WWE stars had a tough time backstage because of Jake Robert's snakes.
To curb the natural aggression of the reptiles, Beefcake recalled how the snakes were well-fed by their handlers before they were used for a wrestling angle. They were then handed over to Jake Roberts, who would mischievously set them loose in the locker room. Yes, you read that right, the locker room!
Brutus Beefcake also revealed that WWE superstars would often run into a 12-foot python crawling on the walls of the dressing room shower, leading to them frantically running out in horror.
"So, (the handlers) would feed the snakes to pacify them, and then they'd bring them to Jake. Jake would take the snakes and throw them into the shower rooms, on the floor, and out of the bag," said Brutus Beefcake. "You'd come walking into the shower, and here's this 12-foot python (crawling) up the wall… You'd go hauling ass out of there."
The belief was that the snakes wouldn't attack any humans as they'd already been fed well. What was unaccounted for was the mess that the pythons created!
Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake admitted that Jake Roberts attracted heat from several talents after the snakes would "stink up the entire locker room."
"Sometimes the snake would shit all over the place, not just in the big. It would go in the shower and shit this yellow stuff that stunk so bad. It would stink up the whole (locker room). You'd have to go into a different dressing room to the shower to shower. Jake had (beef) with a lot of people over that." H/T CinemaBlend
Where has WWE legend Jake 'The Snake' Roberts been amidst his AEW absence?
The WWE Hall of Famer is still signed to All Elite Wrestling even though he hasn't appeared on TV since February.
Jake Roberts is still supposed to be Lance Archer's manager in the promotion, and several AEW fans have missed seeing the 67-year-old in active storylines. Archer recently spoke to Sportskeeda Wrestling's Bill Apter and was asked about the current status of Jake Roberts.
The Murderhawk Monster opened up about the competitive nature of the stacked AEW roster and alluded to Roberts being busy with a few commitments in and outside the company. Archer also explained how the former WWE star had helped his character before sending out a challenge to MJF.
While Jake Roberts' presence will surely benefit AEW programming, his fans can still find him every week on his podcast.
