Joe Hendry has appeared on WWE NXT tonight as a surprise participant in the 25-man Battle Royal to determine Trick Williams' next challenger for the NXT Championship. The TNA star is one of the most popular pro wrestlers in the world, and his theme song is going viral and hitting the charts.
The Edinburgh-born star is currently participating in TNA, but the company has a newly established partnership with WWE. He made his debut in the Stamford-based promotion's developmental brand tonight. Unfortunately, he was the first man eliminated from the Battle Royal, which didn't go down well with fans.
Joe Hendry, 36, had made two appearances in WWE before tonight, appearing as Rosebud on WWE RAW in 2014. He was trained by former Sanity member Killian Dain, as well as Mikey Whiplash, Robbie Brookside, and Marty Jones.
Hendry has also appeared in promotions such as WhatCulture Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor, and New Generation Pro Wrestling. He's the current and longest-reigning TNA Digital Media Champion.
The Scot's WWE NXT debut has long been speculated amid the viral success of his theme song, 'I Believe in Joe Hendy. ' The track was a massive hit on the social media platform TikTok before charting as high as number four in the official UK charts.
Hendry's ventures extend beyond music and pro wrestling. He has a Master's degree in business and marketing and participated with Team Scotland in the Commonwealth Games. He's become one of the biggest names in the wrestling community, and everyone believes in him.
Friends and family 'believed in Joe Hendry' before his WWE NXT debut
Joe Hendry's uncle, Drew Hendry, is the SNP MP (Scottish National Party Member of Parliament) for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch, and Strathspey. He, just like most of the wrestling community, has believed in The Prestigious One:
"It’s been cracking to see the wrestling community and the wider public get behind Joe, he’s absolutely deserving of the top spot. I’ve always believed in him," he said. [H/T BBC News].
Joe Hendry also has the support of WWE RAW star Drew McIntyre, his fellow countryman. He said he believed in his compatriot and that the sky was the limit for him in TNA and beyond. The glowing assessment was met with appreciation from the TNA star.
The pair could lock horns if Hendry's stint in WWE extends beyond tonight's appearance on WWE NXT. Having previously bumped heads in TNA, they could be set for a reunion.
