If you are looking for WWE’s biggest errors of the year so far, somewhere on the list has to be the mismanagement of Cesaro as a potential main eventer and potential WWE World Champion.
Somewhere between keeping the Bella’s happy and overusing Seth Rollins and having to keep its finger on the Roman Reigns trigger, management forgot that the Swiss Superstar was one of the best things going in the company over the summer months.
It’s easy to forget things like this when the company’s head is up its a** – trying to find a product that’s acceptable to the masses without losing ratings like it has been doing for the better part of the year. With Cesaro, WWE missed the boat, the train, the Concorde and any moving object that had the speed to burn.
Cesaro could be white-hot right about now, gaining momentum for an eventual crash course with Brock Lesnar. There are few wrestlers currently on the WWE roster who could legitimately give the former WWE World Champion a solid run for his money. Along with Kevin Owens, John Cena, Rusev and Big Show, Cesaro is one of them. It’s a shame the company cannot see how they have to feed poison to a blooming star as they have with this character.
This assessment on whatculture.com sums up Cesaro’s stance in the company without fault...
Cesaro’s tag team with Tyson Kidd was something rather special: everyone knew that the two were probably the best wrestlers in the company, but the pairing somehow became more than the sum of its parts, and in the process, Kidd finally came close to getting over.
Guess someone else has been noticing the same things I have. And if all things are equal, then why is someone like Ryback – who has gotten better in recent months – getting the rub and push, Cesaro, a former United States Champion, isn’t getting. Kevin Owens did a lot to help showcase Cesaro’s talents, but we already knew how great he was in the ring.
In my opinion, Cesaro is a throwback to the late 1970s. A combination of Billy Robinson, Dory Funk, Jr and a power like Harley Race with the mat skills of a Nick Bockwinkle. The only thing missing is a personality – which cannot be taught, but cannot be denied. If the company is so hell bent on wrestlers with witty personalities, then why is Roman Reigns still getting the nod for a title run?
It’s the same formula with the hope of different results.
I’m not going to try to spin this any other way than what it is. Until the company put a stop in burying solid talent in favor of a flavor of the month, fans are going to be disappointed and apathetic to the cause. He isn’t Owens in terms of personality, but he is exciting and his gimmick is spot on.
Hopefully, management will come around and see that. But until then, Cesaro is nothing more than a jobber. A good one, but still only a jobber.
