Why Daniel Bryan deserves a main-event spot at WrestleMania XXX

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan doesn’t come from a wresting family like The Rock, he doesn’t have the looks of John Cena, the physique of Triple H or the clean cut face of Randy Orton but if a WWE fan had to sum up 2013 with one word it has to be Daniel Bryan.

Daniel Bryan

For an outsider Bryan might just be someone who made his way into WWE due to the decorative Indy past he had, but the fans would know that he was the one who redefined the company last year.

Before his rise, the company’s so called faces; John Cena and Randy Orton were getting complacent after spending almost a decade at the top of the mountain. Their performance began to drop as there was no one in the company to push them. And this void was filled by the flying goat that pushed the envelope to levels that the company hadn’t seen after the Monday night wars.

At the same time, Bryan stood as a role model for the midcarders showing them that the secret doesn’t lie in the push that you got but in the intensity that you put into the ring.

While doing all these, Bryan had some of the best matches of the year, he gave the fans the “Yes” phrase and took home the Slammy for Superstar of the year, Do the creative need any more reasons to put this man on the WrestleMania main event?

Bryan was at the centre of an angle which showed the Authority keeping Orton as the face of the company only because of their lame claim that he was more bankable. The Kayfabe seemed to be extracted from the real life throughout the year as Bryan got the worst booking any top star could get.

He was constantly jumping between upper midcard and the main event without much consistency but the writers took the fruit out of him by pitting him with many top stars. Bryan would just be a high profile jobber for most of the time instead of being the match winner he is.

Though he won the WWE title twice, he has an embarrassing reign of 21 hours combined. And his WrestleMania history also supports the creative team’s grudge towards him as his debut in WrestleMania saw his lose the match in just 18 seconds.

And more recently, he was teamed up with another Indie Darling, CM Punk which went nowhere. Then Bryan would go against the Wyatts only to push them further by sacrificing himself.

The story of his career

The story of his career

Despite all these, Bryan’s popularity and in- ring aura still remains intact with no one in the company to match it at the moment. His relationship with the fans is so intense that it makes them chant his name or his signature “Yes” phrase whenever a boring segment occurs in the ring.

The WWE has been like a musk deer that have been searching for a sweet smell when it was already in their hands all the time. It doesn’t matter who he faces, but it’s going to be a blunder if Bryan is not going to be in the main event of WrestleMania.

There are a lot of possible options at the disposal of the writers. The most exciting one would be a match between the mentor and his protégé with Shawn Michaels and Bryan depicting the characters. The friction between the two was teased in more than one occasion and would make sense if Michaels comes out of retirement to give his student one more valuable lesson.

Another prospect is a singles match for the unified title with either John Cena or Randy Orton through winning the Royal Rumble. But by the looks of it the best way to go would be to replicate the 2000 storyline involving Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit. A triple threat match for the title at WrestleMania main event promises to be a cracker that the fans have been waiting for some time now.

The opportunities and the options are many, but as far as a fan is concerned the ball is still in the hands of the creative that has a reputation of screwing up things just when it starts to get exciting. Everything apart, it’s time that the company get some eyes and ears to realize that Bryan is the future of WWE.
