Why Gunther attacked Finn Balor at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames

WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Damian Priest and Gunther at Survivor Series 2024 ended in chaos after Finn Balor once again interfered, launching a surprise attack on Priest, who had been leading the bout before he was taken out. Taking advantage of the distraction, The Ring General overpowered Priest, choked him out and retained his title after applying a Sleeper Hold.

This was not the first time Balor cost his former faction mate an important bout. The Prince turned his back on Priest at SummerSlam 2024, costing him his Heavyweight Championship against challenger Gunther.

Gunther didn’t like taking help from Finn Balor

Gunther appeared unhappy with Finn Balor’s interference. He immediately took him out with a big boot after he attacked Damian Priest, leaving fans to wonder why The Ring General took The Prince out despite him helping to retain his title.

Throughout the build, The Ring General has said he wants to defeat Damian Priest on his own. He even instructed Ludwig Kaiser to stay out of his business and rather focus on his singles run, as it seemed he wanted to shut The Archer of Infamy with a clean victory.

However, Balor ruining his plan might have angered Gunther, and he took out his frustration by delivering a big boot to Finn’s face.

Finn Balor was looking for the perfect moment

After the former Universal Champion backstabbed Damian Priest at SummerSlam 2024, the two were booked to lock horns in a singles match at Bad Blood 2024, where The Archer of Infamy punished a former faction mate and defeated him cleanly.

Following a big win, Priest announced that he now wants to focus on his singles career and separate himself from The Judgment Day. However, Balor had different plans and was looking for the perfect moment to snap at the 42-year-old superstar.

Damian Priest seems to continue his feud with Balor

Damian Priest was furious at Finn Balor after he once again cost him his Championship match, and he launched a surprise attack on him at the parking lot. However, the tables were quickly turned when JD McDonagh and Carlito rushed out to help their faction member, and all three men brutally assaulted the former Heavyweight Champion before Adam Pearce interfered.

All signs indicate that The Archer of Infamy will continue the feud with Finn Balor and end it once and for all. It will be interesting to see what plans Triple H has in store for this storyline and whether Dominik Mysterio knew about the attack.
