The New Year has arrived and the good news is: we are just three months away from the granddaddy of them all, WrestleMania.
As always there are a lot of rumors making the rounds about who all are getting out of their hibernation state to jump into the ring. The most notable name among that long list has to be Hulk Hogan.
The man who single handedly lifted the Wrestling business in the early nineties might not be in his prime now, but Hulkamania is still running wild to an extent. After a forgettable stint with TNA, Hogan might be heading back home to make on last bow to the fans.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
And what better way to do that than giving a final match at the thirtieth anniversary edition of WrestleMania.
The idea of an old man stepping into the ring might sound crazy at first but what is more crazier is the likely opponent he is going to face, The Undertaker. You heard me right, the 48 year old dead man against the 60 year old Hulkster.
Its not going to ring any bells or rush the excitement, perhaps this match should stay inside the WWE 2k14 rather than getting into the real world but at the current situation this might be the best way to book the two veterans.
Batista, Brock Lesnar and John Cena are the main names in the picture to face The Undertaker at the moment. Now taking Taker out of the situation, assuming he is booked with Hogan then
Batista could be booked against Brock Lesnar giving us a physical marvel inside the squared circle.
John Cena can be included in a triple threat match with Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton for the unified title
The two after effects of the Undertaker- Hogan booking certainly looks more mouthwatering than Taker being beaten up by Lesnar or Batista.
Secondly, I’m not saying that Hogan should end the streak, which would be like giving Spike Dudley the WWE championship. The only gain that Hogan can have from this is a farewell match with Taker sending him into the eternal sleep for one last time. Hogan deserves a goodbye bout in front of a capacity crowd similar to what Ric Flair got some year back. So the streak should be saved to put over a wrestler who has a future in the company which brings to the third point: Saving Undertaker for the Streak Ender.
It’s no secret that the Undertaker is in a bad shape at the moment, which clearly takes his ability to give one hour matches at WrestleMania. Putting him up against any upcoming youngster or other main eventers is only going to punish him and wouldn’t serve the purpose of it being his last match. But a match against Hogan will only make Taker look superior and wouldn’t be as physically demanding as the other scenarios.
Removing the likes of established stars from the scene, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns or Big E Langston are the youngsters who could challenge the streak but not this year. The company is slow and steady in their buildup of these stars and they will only be ready till next year which makes saving the streak a necessity.
The lack of physical torture in the match against Hogan will keep Taker fresh as well giving him more time to prepare for his final dance with his streak ender. Make no doubt about it, his streak will come to an end sooner or later but the later will be a better choice due to the health reasons he is going through.
The match between the two aged horses ain’t going to be a WrestleMania classic, but it will be the best move for business at the current situation.
Now would you like to see a battered Undertaker beaten up in his last match by Cena or Batista or would you like to see him be fully fit for his last match next year against the likes of Roman Reigns or Bray Wyatt? It’s simple as that this year is not the place to end the career of both the legends, instead let them be catalyst for the young breed that will carry the company for years to come.
