Earlier this year, there were talks about Jonathan Coachman returning to the WWE for a part-time role.
According to the rumours, he was scheduled to comeback this summer and work on a SportsCenter type program on WWE Network while maintaining his job at ESPN. An announcement was teased from Coachman’s end as well but it never happened.
Back in June, Coach stated on Twitter that he won’t be returning to the company. One of his fans said that everyone wanted him to return to which he replied “everyone except @wwe.”
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
It is believed that the idea to drop Coach’s return was mainly due to the low ROI (return on investment) although there has been no official confirmation as to why the show never took off. This is why WWE’s original programming largely consists of shows that can be cheaply put together in their television studio in Stamford, Connecticut.
An idea to air a new show on Saturday evening was also pitched for the WWE Network. It would have been like Prime Time Wrestling with two hosts in a studio directing match highlights from the week from all of the shows (Raw, SmackDown, WWE Main Event and NXT). The idea never went far.
On another note, the majority of the people working on the WWE Network aren’t wrestling fans, let alone know much of the industry they cover. This is considered a “big problem” within the company.
