When Ronda Rousey signed with WWE, it was a big move for her and the promotion. Rousey was an immensely popular MMA fighter who was making her way to professional wrestling. Many were interested to see how would she adjust to working in the Stamford-based promotion.
Overall, it would be safe to say Rousey did well. The former MMA fighter and Olympian worked with WWE during the Vince McMahon era. During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Ronda Rousey revealed why it was stressful working with Vince McMahon.
When asked if she still loved professional wrestling, Rousey answered:
"I love pro wrestling. My experience, my last run wasn't the best, you know. It was the death throes of the Vince McMahon era, and they just made it like so needlessly stressful. And I just wish I could show up to the venue and like already know what the match is and have it memorized."
Further, Rousey detailed that she heard things were a lot better under the regime of Triple H. In her last WWE appearance, Rousey competed against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam 2023. Rousey lost to Baszler in what was an MMA rules match.
Ronda Rousey officially confirms she is done with full-time wrestling
When Ronda Rousey lost to Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam 2023 and walked away from WWE, many spoke about the possibility of her returning at some point. After all, Rousey had done the same in 2019, when she left WWE to only return at the 2022 Royal Rumble.
However, during the same interview above with Chris Van Vliet, Ronda Rousey confirmed she won't return to professional wrestling full-time. While Rousey did not rule out the possibility of a comeback, she seemed to shut down talks of a full-time return. Rousey said:
“Full time yeah. I might come back and have some fun here and there. But I can’t be leaving home and being on the road like that.”
After her match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam 2023, Rousey had a few tag team matches in promotions like Lucha VaVoom Area 51, REVOLVER Unreal, and ROH on HonorClub. It will be interesting to see if Rousey ever makes sporadic appearances in such promotions or returns for a part-time gig with WWE.
Overall, Ronda Rousey had a good career. She won a bronze medal in judo at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, went on to become the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion, and even won World Championships in WWE.
