The highlight of this week's NXT action saw The Top Guys of tag team wrestling make their return to the brand. Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, The Revival, stole the show on their return to Full Sail in a losing effort to NXT Tag Team Champions Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly.

It should come as no surprise to many that these teams put on a fantastic match, given that they are two of the best duos under the WWE banner. It was also the perfect way to illustrate the frustrations of The Revival over the last year.

Dawson and Wilder haven't been scared to voice their unhappiness in WWE, as the pair reportedly requested a release from the company in January, citing grievances with the overall booking of the WWE tag division.

Despite winning multiple tag team championships on both RAW and SmackDown since, The Revival are apparently still yet to commit their futures to the promotion, further fueling speculation that they have their hearts set on a move to AEW.

WWE's efforts to keep the pair happy have been valiant, but there has been a flaw: a lack of in-ring action for the pair. In their original run with NXT, they were not just the best team on the brand, but the best wrestlers in the Black & Gold brand.

It could be argued that injuries stalled their momentum on RAW after their call-up in 2017, but they still haven't been presented nearly as strong as they were on the NXT. Their performance on Wednesday showed where their talents shine best - on a wrestling centric stage.

For all the strengths NXT possesses, the tag division is arguably their weakest aspect. If WWE wants to seriously establish it as the third brand and not just a developmental arm, they need to be strong on all fronts. Bringing The Revival back full time will instantly give the division a massive boost.

Getting the platform to wrestle 20-minute classics again regularly should hopefully diminish any annoyances the pair have as well.

It could be a risky move because it weakens the SmackDown roster somewhat, but if WWE wants to be serious about keeping The Revival in the company, this could be the best way to do that.
