16-time World Champion John Cena is on the Mount Rushmore of many professional wrestling fans. Cena's legendary career in WWE has cemented his status as one of the GOATs. However, all this would have never taken place because Cena revealed he was close to being cut early in his career.
In the recently released docuseries titled Mr. McMahon, John Cena revealed his personality early in his career was not interesting. However, what saved him was that he rapped in front of Stephanie McMahon, who asked him if he would like to do the same on television. In the docuseries, Vince also commented on this.
Mr. McMahon said:
"John had the ability to rap. Bingo. Instead of being someone that you might want to cut from the roster, it was like, 'hang on. This is different. Very different."
You can check out highlights of the 16-time World Champion rapping early in his career:
John Cena's ability to rap gave birth to his Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick and the rest is history. Post this gimmick, Cena went on to become one of the biggest babyfaces in the Stamford-based promotion and eventually became the face of the Stamford-based promotion.
John Cena also gave his opinion on Vince McMahon's Mr. McMahon persona
The year 1997 witnessed Vince McMahon take on the persona of Mr. McMahon, who was a massive heel. This persona resulted in success for McMahon and WWE as the former boss engaged in some epic feuds against the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and even won titles like the WWE Championship.
During the above-mentioned docuseries, John Cena gave his opinion on the Mr. McMahon persona. Cena revealed that the persona in question was the best WWE personality ever. However, he also shared his opinion on the persona after the Attitude era.
John Cena said:
"Mr. McMahon, he is the best WWE personality ever. But after the Attitude Era, like, Mr. McMahon was a more selectively used character."
Under Vince McMahon's control, Cena went on to experience tremendous success in WWE. However, it's important to note that Mr. McMahon also got Cena success outside of WWE when he offered the wrestler his first-ever Hollywood film, The Marine.
This film was more or less the beginning of Cena's career in the movies and the rest is history. Today, Cena is one of the biggest movie stars in the world and has also produced some films himself.
