The penultimate episode of SmackDown in 2024 will take place this Friday night December 20. The upcoming episode of the blue brand will not be live, though, as WWE taped it last week after the December 13 episode went off the air.
The reason for that decision was to give the blue brand's superstars more time to spend with their families during the Christmas holidays.
Likewise, WWE taped the RAW episode of December 23 last Monday, and the episode will not air live next Monday. Thus, superstars from both brands will have time off during the holiday period to spend with their loved ones.
After Christmas, WWE will return to its live shows with a five-day Christmas Tour, which will also include the final episodes of SmackDown and RAW for 2024.

What fans can expect to see this Friday on SmackDown
This Friday's episode of SmackDown will be the fallout of Saturday Night's Main Event. The Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is not expected to be on the show. As part of the storyline, he is out injured after Kevin Owens assaulted him with a piledriver after Saturday's title match.
KO should show up to explain his actions at Saturday Night's Main Event and take another shot at The American Nightmare. This rivalry is far from over, and the question is when Randy Orton will return, as he also has unfinished business with KO.
Fans can expect the inaugural Women's United States Champion Chelsea Green to show up and celebrate the biggest moment in her WWE career, while Bianca Belair will have her first title defense since Jade Cargill's injury. This time, she will team up with Naomi to take on the WWE Women's Champion Nia Jax and Candice LeRae for the Tag Team Title.
Last but not least, LA Knight's feud with Solo Sikoa and The New Bloodline will continue this week, and the same goes for Drew McInyre's feud with The OG Bloodline. The Scottish Warrior has already assaulted The Usos and Sami Zayn and will be on the blue brand to address his actions.
The question is whether Sami and The Usos will show up as well to take revenge on the former World Heavyweight Champion.
