Will The Rock vs. John Cena 3 actually happen in WWE?

It has been over a decade since The Rock and John Cena squared up for the first time in WWE at the Miami Gardens, Florida. Their electrifying feud is fresh in the memory of fans and critics alike. The two megastars headlined WrestleMania twice before eventually taking to Hollywood to become the successful actors they are today.

Revisiting the rivalry, it all started when Dwayne Johnson returned in February 2011 and insulted Cena. He later cost him the WWE Championship match against The Miz. Both stars settled things at WrestleMania 28, which The Rock won in an emphatic fashion. Big Match John took a year to redeem himself, winning the Royal Rumble and pinning The Great One at 'Mania 29.

Although he knows that his physical condition isn't the best, John Cena hasn't ruled out a match against his former rival. He teased fighting The Rock for the third time. Yet, logically speaking, such a program is not likely to happen. Both have hectic Hollywood schedules so they will have problems figuring out a time for a wrestling return.

WWE usually doesn't put two part-timers against each other. The reason is that their rivalry cannot be lengthened even if the WWE Universe demands it. Moreover, John Cena doesn't feel capable of wrestling anymore. His match with Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39 was lackluster. It justifies his lack of in-ring time in the tag team match against Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn last year.

Speaking of The Rock, he could return to WWE for another WrestleMania main event. The door is open for him for next year's April event. However, instead of Cena, the hype mainly revolves around Dwayne clashing with Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The chances of that are still less though.

John Cena regrets the real-life heat he had with WWE legend The Rock

John Cena and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson had real-life issues that streamlined their feud on television from 2011 to 2013. The reason dates back to 2008, when the 16-time world champion questioned Dwayne's passion for wrestling. He called The Brahma Bull a hypocrite for abandoning WWE, the company that made him, while reaping profits in Hollywood.

Fast forward to 2023, The Cenation Leader has termed himself the hypocrite. He literally became what he swore to destroy. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, John revealed more about this revelation.

"My view was, if you love something, be there every day. What a hypocrite I am, because I still love WWE and I can’t go all the time. And I just didn’t see that, I was so selfish.”

Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect continued on the topic of his showdown against The Rock.

"I wanted a main event marquee match because it would (be) better (for) what I thought was the business. And that’s so shortsighted and selfish,” Cena reflected. “It worked but at the cost of two people who communicated and almost put it in jeopardy.” (H/T CNN)

Dwayne Johnson has a cameo in the latest blockbuster film Fast X, which features Jason Momoa, Vin Diesel and John Cena. It has grossed $318 million worldwide in its first week.
