John Cena took the WWE Universe on an emotional roller coaster when he returned to Money in the Bank on July 6, 2024. His mere presence in the ring shot up the fans' dopamine levels, and the crowd almost blew the roof off the arena. Unfortunately for the fans, The Champ arrived with the news of his retirement. He informed the fans that 2025 would be his last year in pro wrestling.
Cena is currently a 16-time world champion, tied with Ric Flair. To break this record, The Champ needs to win another world championship, and it needs to happen within 2025 since WrestleMania 41 will be the last one Cena will participate in. It so happens that Triple H has claimed that The Leader of Cenation should be at the top of every list for Mount Rushmore, and if he truly believes that, he will want The Champ to retire with a record-breaking number of WWE championships to his name.
"A lot of people talk about legends and icons and so much speculation made about who would be on the Mount Rushmore. I don’t care what metric you use, Cena is at the top of all of them."
A top AEW star just called one of his colleagues 'spoiled' and 'narcissistic' HERE.
Given that John Cena's last year is 2025, WWE might begin building his final championship run towards the end of 2024. Of course, it's unknown which championship The Champ will chase, but it can be the Intercontinental Championship to make him a Grand Slam Champion.
Wrestling analyst claims former Intercontinental Champion can be John Cena's final challenger
Ever since The Champ made the announcement, the WWE Universe has been speculating about his final challenger. One name that has come up more often than not is Randy Orton.
However, wrestling analyst Sam Roberts speculated on a match between John Cena and Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam 2025.
"Maybe Gunther is the guy. Maybe Gunther holds the title for a year. Maybe Gunther wins the title at SummerSlam and then holds it for the year until John Cena beats him. And maybe in October Gunther wins it back or somebody else wins it."
It's only a matter of time before fans see The Champ hang up the boots. The last run might end with a huge round of applause and "Thank You, Cena" chants!
