WWE RAW is just one of the shows of the Stamford-based promotion that will undergo a major change, which has caused some fans to be divided. However, it looks like some of the alterations won't be permanent.

This week's WWE RAW episode was the season premiere of the brand on the USA Network. The show featured the return of Bret Hart and Natalya, confirmed matches for the upcoming Bad Blood Premium Live Event, Jey Uso as Bron Breakker's new challenger for the Intercontinental Championship, and more. It was also announced that starting October 7, 2024, the show will no longer air for three hours as its time slot will be moved to 8 P.M. to 10 P.M. from the usual 8 P.M. to 11 P.M. EST. However, this new time slot won't be permanent.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE RAW will return to its three-hour format once it moves to Netflix next year. It was also reported that the network decided to reduce the length as the third hour drags down the average, which in turn will boost the ratings.

Friday Night SmackDown also underwent a recent change. This week will mark their first episode on the USA Network after airing their last episode on FOX last week, it will remain a two-hour show.

Does former head writer think WWE RAW's two-hour format will be permanent?

While the report from Dave Meltzer stated that the Monday show's two-hour format is only temporary, former WWE head writer Vince Russo thinks it will be a permanent move.

On the recent episode of Legion of RAW, Russo stated that RAW could remain two hours long and WWE is preparing themselves for when it eventually airs on Netflix in 2025.

"I think it's gonna be permanent. I'm telling you. I don't think they'd go from three to two and back to three. I think they haven't formatted a two-hour show in a long time. I think they want to get that back down to a formula. That's why they are doing it three months ahead of time. I'm gonna tell you, I could be totally wrong. I got no inside information or nothing. But I can't believe they are gonna go back to three hours on Netflix."

It remains to be seen what other changes the Stamford-based promotion could make to their shows in the coming months.
