WWE Women's Tag Team Championship

The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship is the only tag team championship for women in the WWE’s main roster, which can be defended on both Raw and SmackDown brands. The Championship was created on January 14, 2019, to recognize tag team talent in the women’s division across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT. However, due to a controversial finish to a title defense in March 2021, the title was made exclusive to the main roster. The developmental brand NXT has its own NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship.

Belt design
On January 14, 2019, Alexa Bliss unveiled The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. The Championship belt has three plates, placed on a white leather strap. All three plates are outlined with gold and mostly silver in the middle. The main plate in the middle has four protruding edges, a meander pattern in the outer golden circle, two leaves, and the title banner. The words “Women’s” at the top portion, “Champions” in the lower portion, and “Tag Team” in the middle are inscribed in gold. The side plates can be customized with the logo of the champion or their team. By default, the side plates have a WWE logo on the globe. This belt is usually small when compared to the Men’s Tag Team Championship belts.
History of WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
In 1983 WWF (now WWE) established the WWF Women’s Tag Team Championship, which was active until it was abandoned in 1989. The title was abandoned due to a lack of women in the tag team division. Until 2010, the women’s division was filled with limited members, thus one major title was sufficient. However, due to the major growth in the women’s division, demand for the Women’s Tag Team Championships rose in the following years. After years of rumors, WWE Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Vince McMahon at the time officially announced that the New Women’s Tag Team Championship would be introduced soon.
On the January 14, 2019 episode of Raw, the WWE Women’s Championship was introduced by Alexa Bliss in her “A Moment of Bliss” segment. It was also declared that the inaugural champions will be crowned at Elimination Chamber in an Elimination Chamber Match, where three teams from Raw and three teams from SmackDown will be competing inside the chamber.
Sasha Banks and Bayley under the team name The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection won the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. As of February 2025, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship has seen 28 title reigns, 21 tag teams, 34 individual champions, and two vacancies. As a team, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez have the most number of title reigns as three-time champions. Individually, Asuka and Rodriguez have the most number of WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship reigns as four-time champions. As a team, The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) have the longest reign of 180 days. Whereas, Alexa Bliss & Asuka have the shortest reign of 4 days. As a team, The Kabuki Warriors have the longest combined reign of 278 days. Individually, Asuka has the longest combined reign at 323 days. Rhea Ripley is the youngest to win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at the age of 24 and Lita is the oldest to win at the age of 47. Sasha Banks and Naomi are the only champions who vacated the tag titles in the women’s division.
