5. Edge vs Christian
When Edge and Christian started out in the WWF, they were just a couple of young kids who dreamt of making it big in the business, and they were successful in doing that together. They went on to become one of the greatest tag teams of all time in the industry. They were a part of a match which revolutionized the business, which was the Tables, Ladders and Chairs match, and were known to be the innovators of ladder matches.
When the WWE management decided to split both of them, the fans thought Christian would be more successful than Edge, because of his charisma and him being one of the best in-ring workers. Fast forward to 2011, Edge became a 11 time world champion and Christian was on fire, coming back to the WWE after being away for a couple of years. When Edge won his match against Alberto Del Rio with Christian by his side at WrestleMania, people were expecting a dream match between two best friends, something that could be a Triple H-Shawn Michaels 2! Sadly, we’ll never know what might have happened as Edge retired from professional wrestling soon after WrestleMania. This was one match the fans were hoping to see, and could’ve been a dream feud had it happened.

4. John Cena vs Hulk Hogan
For years, Cena has been compared to Hulk Hogan of the 80s. After all, they both were the franchise players of the organization, holding the title for a long duration. Apart from that, they both invoke similar kind of response from the fans, and have been role models for kids during their respective generations. If Hogan could compete, this would’ve been one of the greatest feuds in WWE history.
Hogan once said there were plans for a Hogan-Cena feud, but Vince and Cena rubbished it off. One can never know it is indeed true, or it was something that Hogan made up. Also, both Cena and Hogan are controversial to say the very least, and although the passionate wrestling fans wouldn’t be interested in this feud, there is no denying the fact that a showdown between the generations would not only bring the 80s fans back to the current product, but would have also been the biggest challenge for Cena till date. These two guys might not put on a good match, but the buzz and interest it would generate would make it a WrestleMania main event calibre match.
3. Chris Benoit vs Daniel Bryan
We’ve always dreamt about that ‘perfect wrestling match’, a match which doesn’t only exceed the ‘technical masterpiece’ tag, but can go on to become the single greatest wrestling match in the history of professional wrestling. We’ve seen many matches which came close to perfection, which were rated 5 (or more on very rare occasions) stars, but all of that can crumble down in front of a match which would’ve pit two of the greatest professional wrestlers in the business.
Chris Benoit is heralded as the greatest wrestler, period, while Bryan Danielson, aka Daniel Bryan is considered to be the greatest wrestler of this generation. The match itself would be built as a bout between two technical wrestling protégés, and two of the greatest submission specialists. Just the idea of the match would leave the wrestling fans salivating, but once again, it is also a dream match that can never become a reality.
2. Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan
At number 2 is the dream feud between two of the greatest superstars in the history of the industry. When you make a list of the greatest ‘superstars’ in the history of professional wrestling, the top 2 would contain the names of Austin and Hogan, and the feud nearly became a reality when WWE expressed its interest in the feud, which was initiated by Hogan.
Hogan wanted to work with Austin, as he knew they both could draw like no other, and their feud would outnumber the rest, whether it is in gates or buyrates or the total revenue. Austin is universally loved, and Hogan invokes response among the fans like no other. But Austin was less than happy about working with Hogan, as Hogan held Austin down when they were in WCW, and was directly responsible for the release of Steve Austin from the company.
1. Undertaker vs Sting
And at number 1 is a match that could’ve happened last year at WrestleMania. Ever since WCW folded, there has been one match on the fans’ minds that they want to see. The Undertaker is arguably the greatest name in the history of the WWE and professional wrestling, who has been the flag bearer and the yard stick of the organization. Similarly, Sting was the ‘icon’ in WCW, who held the name of the company in high regards, and never did anything to throw a bad light on the organization.
With these two being two of the greatest fan favourites in the industry, the fans demanded to see a match between both of them. WWE contacted Sting in ’12, and although The Stinger was interested in the bout, he chose not to sign with the WWE just for one match and give up on his morals. Although it is still possible to witness the match of the millennium between the two, it might just remain to be one of the greatest dream matches that could’ve happened, but didn’t.
