10 things you did not know about Brock Lesnar

#1 The Undertaker has never beaten (cleanly) Brock Lesnar at a pay-per-view

In the past decade, Lesnar has shared the ring with Taker on six different PPV matches, and Lesnar has come out victorious in every single one of them barring the one at SummerSlam.

The first clash of the titans was at the Unforgiven of 2002, a month after Lesnar won the first WWE Title at SummerSlam. It has hence been revealed that Lesnar was supposed to be defeated via a disputed pinfall finish, however, The Phenom did not like the finish and it was changed to the double disqualification, the way the match finally concluded.

At No Mercy, the PPV which followed had Lesnar defeat Undertaker cleanly in a Hell in a Cell match. Lesnar impressively countered a Tomsstone into an F5 to finish the match.

Their 3rd PPV encounter was at the No Mercy of 2003, where Lesnar again got the better of Taker in a chain match. However, it did not finish cleanly, as Vince McMahon wanted Lesnar to win.

The 4th encounter between the two, took place at the WrestleMania XXX, where Brock broke the unrivalled 21-0 WrestleMania streak of The Undertaker.

At Summerslam, Undertaker showed heel traits to steal a victory after a defiant Lesnar refused to tap out. The trilogy of matches ended with Lesnar coming out on tops at Hell in a Cell, thus ending the epic rivalry on a high.

#2 The secret behind his tattoo?

Lesnar has sported numerous tattoo’s throughout his career, but in 2008, he returned to UFC with a sword inked on his chest, pointing towards his throat.

This tattoo has been explained in his autobiography “Death Clutch”.

According to Lesnar, the sword reflects the myriad of pressures that The Pain encountered during a dark period in his life after he left the WWE.

"I felt like life was holding a sword right up against my throat, so I went under the ink gun because I never wanted to forget exactly how I felt at that time," Lesnar wrote.

"The tattoo on my chest has so much meaning to me. In some ways, it’s funny, because the period of my life that I’m talking about is a time I so want to forget, but I know I can use this memory as motivation."

#3 He is married to three time Playboy cover model and former WWE Diva Sable

Lesnar and Sable met during his first stint as a top guy on SmackDown, and they began dating. Both of them have had a unique history with WWE, both were at the top of their profession, before leaving the WWE, then sued the company, only to settle and return later.

The couple got married in 2006 and have two sons together as well as a child each from their previous relationships.

#4 He was nick-named Brocolli

It is hard to fathom anyone addressing Brock with a nick-name, let alone an insulting one.

In a segment of the WWE DVD, “Brock Lesnar: Here Comes the Pain!”, Justin Gaikowski, a childhood friend of Lesnar, has thrown light on Lesnar’s not so common nick-name.

"I used to call him ‘Broccoli,’ "When you’re young, nobody likes to eat broccoli. I’d be like, ‘Hey, Broccoli! You’ve got bad taste!’"

#5 He did not win his first WWE match by pin-fall or submission

In the spring of 2002, when Brock faced Jeff Hardy in his first official match at the Backlash. Hardy was subjected to a series of powerbombs and a career threatening F-5 onto the ring, which left him incapacitated.

A traumatised Hardy was unable to respond to the calls of the then referee Theodore Long and the bout was stopped, only for Lesnar to be awarded the victory.

#6 He almost played for the Minnesota Vikings

Following WrestleMania XX, Brock left the WWE, to pursue a career in NFL, becoming only the second person then to have walked out on the company, after Stone Cold Steve Austin.

However, while preparing for this, he was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash, an accident which saw his bike torn into three pieces following a collision with a minivan. Lesnar was left with a broken jaw, a broken left hand, a bruised pelvis and a severely pulled groin.

While still recuperating from his unfortunate accident, Lesnar joined an eight-week NFL training camp to prove his worth to the Vikings top brass. Lesnar was given a chance to impress in some preseason games for the Vikings, but he never looked like he will make the team.

#7 He broke Hardcore Hollys neck

In 2002, during a match on SmackDown, Lesnar accidentally broke Holly’s neck courtesy of a less than careful powerbomb which saw Holly miss up to a year of action.

In a 2013 interview, Holly had said: “Let me clear something up, people write stupid s–t on the internet all the time saying me and Brock didn’t get along, me and him got along just fine and we worked well together. I did break my neck during a match with Brock but he called me all the time while I was in the hospital checking up on me.

“People say that he did it on purpose and I got what I deserved, let me tell you something no one deserves to get a broken neck number one, and he didn’t do it on purpose!”

#8 He sued the company that made him a millionaire

In March of 2004, following the WrestleMania 20, Lesnar walked out on WWE and this was the message which was posted on their website: “Brock Lesnar has made a personal decision to put his WWE career on hold to prepare to tryout for the National Football League this season. Brock has wrestled his entire professional career in the WWE and we are proud of his accomplishments and wish him the best in his new endeavour.”

The details of Lesnar’s departure surfaced online in 2005: “Lesnar signed a talent contract extension with WWE in 2003 that took effect July 1, 2003, and was set to last until June 30, 2010. Less than a year later, with a desire to attempt to play in the NFL, he asked to get out of his contract. WWE agreed to let him out of his contract, but only if he signed a non–compete clause.”

The non-compete clause ensured that Lesnar couldn’t sign on for pro wrestling or ultimate fighting till the expiry of his WWE contract.

Lesnar eagerly signed the deal as he had no plans at that point to continue as a wrestler and wanted to make a name in the NFL. Once the whole NFL adventure collapsed, he sued WWE, as he had to earn his living and the non-compete deal he signed had really reduced his options.

In 2006, Lesnar almost re-signed for the WWE, as a WWE.com article has comments from Lesnar talking about his come-back: “I’m excited about getting my working boots on and getting back to business, I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow in the meeting, I don’t know if I’m returning to WWE, I really don’t.

“In order for this to happen, it has to work for both Vince and myself. I had some maturing to do. There comes a time in everybody’s life when you have to grow up. But professional wrestling is in my blood. I may have second guessed it in the past, but I know it now.”

Not long after another statement broke the hearts of millions of fans, as it turned out that Lesnar was not returning: “After verbally agreeing to terms with WWE, Brock Lesnar has decided to withdraw from any involvement with the company.”

WWE and Lesnar finally reached an agreement in the June of 2006, which enabled Lesnar to do as he wished. He was associated with the New Japan Pro Wrestling for a short amount of time, before moving on to the MMA and eventually returning to the WWE.

#9 He fought Sumo champion Akebono, while refusing a Japanese Rite of Initiation from Anotonio Inoki

Lesnar battled the Sumo wrestler Akebono on 19th March, 2006 and came out victorious in the match against the 500-pound man.

American grapplers who wish to compete in Japan have to receive a slap across the face from WWE Hall of Famer and Japanese legend Antonio Inoki, as a rite of passage. It is seen by most as an honour, but Brock straight away refused.

In his autobiography, he wrote: "No one was going to slap me,"

"Not Inoki. Not anyone. They got the point."

#10 Brock Lesnar once kissed Kurt Angle

Back in 2003 Lesnar and Angle were the biggest name in the business, and as the two alpha males of WWE clashed in 2003, in an off air segment Kurt was kissed by Brock. It was the time went the two went from being buddies to rivals as Lesnar turned the heel.
