Sports entertainment, like any other combat sport, thrives on selling shows around big ticket players. WWE builds feuds and anticipation all year, sowing the seeds for clashes, for a confrontation or grudge match at their big shows like Wrestlemania and Summerslam. Dream matches are booked in this manner. Wrestling fans salivate at the prospect of Kurt Angle vs Bret Hart, or even John Cena vs The Undertaker. Wrestlers too, who’re more often than not, fans of the product, have their own dream encounters that they would love to partake in. Here are some of them.
#1 Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Daniel Bryan has been very vocal about wanting to face The Beast Incarnate ‘Brock Lesnar’, both before his retirement and after. Even though this match will never happen, Bryan brought up the topic recently on Talking Smack. Long term fans of Bryan, will remember that he’s brought up the prospect of facing Lesnar on several occasions before this as well. Well, such a matchup would certainly be...highly interesting.
#2 Rusev vs Hulk Hogan
Rusev has always portrayed himself as the ultimate Un-American. And nobody embodies the American spirit like Hulk Hogan. Rusev dreams of facing Hulk Hogan in a First Blood match, because just a pinfall or submission is not enough. As long as Hogan does not use racist terminology, we’re sure this would be a dream match. Put the US title on the line too, please?
#3 Charlotte vs Stephanie McMahon
Hey, everyone wants to beat up their bosses. None more so than Charlotte who dreams of facing her boss Stephanie McMahon in a one-on-one contest. This seems like a likely future encounter considering a few of their altercations in the past. May not be a match that fans dream of, but hey, as long as Charlotte is happy.
#4 Ric Flair vs John Cena
You may be thinking to yourself, sure...Cena would love this encounter. But truth be told, it’s Ric Flair who wants to face John Cena one last time. Even after he retired from active competition, we know that Flair can’t get wrestling out of his system. Given half a chance, he’ll step into the ring again. The Nature Boy wants to take down the face that runs the place - John Cena. Maybe if they were 35?
#5 John Cena vs Roman Reigns
John Cena is still the face of modern wrestling. And Roman Reigns is the man slated to take his spot. Both have not been accepted by the WWE Universe as babyfaces, but in Vince McMahon’s world their looks, size and build make them top stars. Cena wants to face Roman Reigns in a singles match, and he’s said so publicly. We are sure this match will transpire soon.
#6 Kurt Angle vs Daniel Bryan
Kurt Angle has spoken about wanting to face both Ric Flair and Bret Hart in the past. But the Olympic Gold Medalist considers Daniel Bryan to be Shawn Michaels reborn. He has publicly stated that if Angle and Bryan were given 30 minutes, they'd put on the match of the century. He has also stated in the past that he would want to be retired by Bryan. Funny how life works...Bryan retired before Angle due to injuries.
#7 AJ Styles vs Shawn Michaels
A.J. Styles is considered the greatest wrestler of the modern age. Shawn Michaels, the greatest wrestler of all time. A clash between them would be a battle for the ages. Styles has never been shy of his admiration for the Heart Break Kid, and has said publicly that be it a punch or a slam, Michaels made every move mean something. This is something Styles is renowned for as well. We pray this match happens! Especially considering Shawn Michaels is still in good shape.
#8 Shawn Michaels vs Ricky Steamboat
And now, we come to the Heart Break kid himself. While he would love to have faced Sting or Harley Race, Michaels thinks that he and Ricky Steamboat would have put on a classic. So do we, Shawn. So do we.
#9 Sting vs The Undertaker
This is a match that has been talked about for decades. Sting pretty much joined the WWE to end his career in a battle with 'The Undertaker’. But circumstances would not allow the two to wrestle as Sting was forced to retire with an injury and The Undertaker too isn’t physically fit to put on a long match. What a crying shame, if truth be told!
#10 Eva Marie vs The Rock
Eva Marie was asked not so long back who her dream opponent is. Without batting an eyelid, she named ‘The Rock’. And ladies and gentlemen, on that awkward note we end today’s countdown.
