This is one of the most famous botches ever and possibly the most graphic injury in wrestling history. It happened on January 14th 2001 when WCW held their "Sin" pay-per-view. Sid was in the main event, a four corners match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship along with Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and Road Warrior Animal.
During the match, Sid took to the middle rope to deliver a jumping boot to Steiner. Sid has said before that he was under pressure from WCW management to attempt moves from the top rope. They wanted him to present himself as a more dynamic performer.
Sid felt that because he was nearly seven feet tall that he did not need to use those type of moves. However, for some reason Sid decided to attempt a move from the middle rope in this match.
He jumped from the middle rope and delivered a boot to Scott Steiner. All of his weight landed on one leg and it snapped underneath him. He broke his tibia and fibula immediately and the crowd looked on in horror as his leg pointed in the wrong direction.
It was silly for WCW to try to get Sid to attempt those type of moves in the first place. Sid spent years rehabbing the injury and his wrestling ability was never the same.
