2014 was the year when Miz sort of followed into his idol, The Rock’s footsteps and imbibed a Hollywood heel gimmick. That gimmick got him two Intercontinental reigns and a hilarious stunt double. Sandow couldn’t have ensued the hilarity he does if he had imitated any other superstar. There have been many great heels this year- Stephanie McMahon tops the list with every member of Authority following her. But Miz has created his own niche in the heel category. Here are five reasons why he’ll always be a great heel.
#1 The hardcore audience reception
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
If you have a heel CM Punk in front of a hardcore audience, or heel Ziggler or heel Shield, or heel Wyatt Family, the hardcore sudience will cheer for them. No matter what. But bring Miz in front of such an audience and youll hear unanimous boos.
That either entails youre a crappy babyface or that rather means that youre doing a good job as a heel. Miz has this persona which naturally demands a lot of jeers.
#2 His promos
Sure, he’s inculcated that Chris Jericho-quality of speaking slowly but it suits him aplenty. He may not be as good in the ring as he is when he’s holding his microphone. By ‘his microphone’, it means that trademark inverted W, which obviously represents his initial M.
He comes across as arrogant, snobbish. He’s better off displaying all these heel qualities than giving the audience what they want.
Now that he thinks he’s royalty because of starring in movies, his arrogance has reached a whole new level. He’s just so proud of himself.
#3 His gimmick
If you thought Miz could only play the reality star tturned wrestler who main evented gimmick, think again. His new Hollywood persona is suiting him so well.
Calling his face the moneymaker was a good partof his gimmick. It made punching his face all the more worthwhile to watch and worth waiting for. And now he has a stunt double who is more entertaining than him and the audience is totally paying him all the attention than The Miz.
Having a stunt double is so apt for this gimmick, and Damien Sandow is stealing the show precisely by copying the Miz. If Sandow has a solo career right now, it wont be the same without being Mizs stunt double. He wont get the same reaction when hes not imitating the Miz.
#4 His face turn didn\'t really help him
Remember when Miz returned a few years ago at Money In The Bank and the first traces of a ‘This Is Awesome’ chant began? Those were the times which proved that his work as a heel had really worked. Fans were happy to see him back.
But then, he won the IC title and immediately turned face, got Ric Flair to give him his blessings to use the Figure Four Leglock and all in all it was a time where Miz was getting stale. It just didn’t suit him.
It was great then to finally see him unravelling late last year when Big show had returned after he was fired by the Authority and Miz saying that he was happy show returned but nobody really cares what he thinks. That sort of resembled what his face turn was doing to him.
And gladly enough, he’s back to being a heel.
#5 The way he treats other people
Okay, so what’s there not to hate about this character called The Miz?
He doesn’t really treat his tag team partner and fellow champion as his equal because Sandow is his stunt double. He says he is the real deal while Sandow is just a duplicate. Miz holds all the gold, be it the tag titles or the Slammy Award, while Sandow is follows his lead.
And that gives the audience ample reason to cheer for Sandow. Sandow is cheered majorly for how dedicated and hilarious he is as the stunt double but also because of how Miz behaves with him.
People could really chant ‘Damien Sandow’ or ‘Damien Mizdow’ but they choose to chant ‘Mizdow’s better’ which means to spite Miz in a way too. That’s how they want him to feel.
Also, the recent storyline with The Usos involving Naomi is also working because of the way Miz behaves, acts and talks about vhis various connections.
