If there is anything NXT TakeOver: The End represented, it was the end of NXT being known as WWE’s developmental territory. It was the beginning of NXT being treated as a brand in itself.

For someone like Melina, who has won virtually everything the company has offered its female performers, the NXT Championship is something that still represents a new challenge. Asuka doesn’t have many challengers left except Bayley, who is herself going to the main roster sooner rather than later. She needs more challenges and even though WWE is building up Billie Kay, a veteran challenging Asuka will not do any harm. NXT’s female roster could also use her at its current threadbare state.

Melina can very well pose a major challenge to The Empress of Tomorrow.
