5- WWE Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) AJ Styles
Hope
Dean Ambrose retains, giving him a huge win over one of the biggest stars in the world. AJ just #beatupJohnCena. Ambrose beating Ambrose up would solidify his role as the top guy on Smackdown. It would turn him into the scrappy psycho who not only deserves to be there, but he will not go gently into that good mat.
And get him away from hiding in Christmas presents and taking people out with mustard, being taken out by exploding TVs, and all the other silly stuff that helps Renee Young sleep at night. Save AJ’s win for a bigger PPV, Backlash is already crowning 3 champions for the first time, we don’t need a fourth, because honestly, it’s just Backlash.
Reality
Aj wins, jump-starting his reign too early and diminishing Dean’s sidestep back into tough, gritty, champion. Either way, I think this match has the potential to surprise a lot of people. It may not end the way I want, but it’s gonna be a barnburner getting there.
A lot of people are focused on Shinsuke Nakamura’s Strong Style finally getting stateside, and Kevin Owens becoming the Universal Champion, but this could sneak up and get the whole world talking.
But you know what else could sneak up? John Cena, to exact revenge on AJ Styles and allow Dean Ambrose to retain his title. If anyone can make in time from Shangai, John Cena can.
