CM Punk has finally made a return to wrestling - at least in some fashion. The possibility of his return and speculation surrounding it has been debated over the last few months. After awhile, it seemed that the rumors were dying down, and fans had lost hope of ever seeing him return to WWE.
However, CM Punk showed up on the latest edition of WWE Backstage. He mentioned that he'd be a part of the show from next week onward, and the announcement has intrigued fans all over the world.
This shocking development could also be a sign that WWE's relationship with CM Punk has improved. Honestly, there are questions and doubts in the minds of wrestling fans all around the world and those look to be answered in the coming weeks ahead. In this article, we explore three things that could happen after CM Punk returned to WWE Backstage.
Former WWE writer buries Judgment Day HERE
#3. Never interacts with WWE
For years now, there have been rumors about CM Punk's potential return to WWE. Fans have been clamoring for his return since he left the company over five years ago. When AEW was established, some wanted him to sign with the company, as a big name addition, however, that never actually transpired.
Earlier this year, there was speculation that CM Punk had a tryout with FOX, and people assumed that this meant that he would automatically join WWE. However, that is not the case as he is a FOX employee and not contracted with WWE.
Therefore, it isn't quite as shocking as it would be if he showed up on RAW or SmackDown. After a tumultuous breakup, one would think Punk still has some bad blood with WWE and that may never change. As fans, we can only be hopeful that his signing with FOX shows that things are better between the two parties.
#2. Hall of Fame induction
Since CM Punk returned to the WWE Backstage show on FOX, some fans want him back on WWE programming as well. We don't know the current relationship between Punk and the company, so it's difficult to predict what will happen in the future. Whenever CM Punk or any official in WWE has been questioned about it as of late, they vaguely reply: 'Never say never.'
This indicates that they aren't ruling out the possibility of a return, but aren't entirely positive of one either. If CM Punk does not return to the ring, then he could at least be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. CM Punk was one of the most influential wrestlers of his era and paved the way for many indie Superstars to join the company.
He also has one of the longest WWE Championship reigns in history under his belt, so there is enough reason to induct him in the Hall of Fame. It may only be a matter of time before the company does that, and Punk is unlikely to object to it either.
#1. Return to in-ring competition
This may be far fetched, but this can be the most exciting thing that could ever happen for WWE fans and fans of CM Punk. When Punk left WWE, he left a big void, which took a long time to fill. Fans have been clamoring for his return for years and still chant his name on occasion. It's no doubt that he's a fan favorite and it would be huge if he were to return to in-ring competition.
There may be some bad blood between the two parties, but when it comes to business, all that can be put aside. As long as the time is right, WWE wouldn't hesitate to offer Punk enough money to return. Punk has indicated that if the money is right, he would be likely to accept the offer and return to have one final run.
All in all, fans shouldn't rule out any possibilities and be open to anything and everything when it comes to CM Punk. Whether he returns to in-ring competition remains to be seen, but the fact that he's now on the WWE Backstage show is enough to make many WWE fans very happy.
