The Miz kicked off the year 2019 with a bang by capturing the SmackDown Tag Team Championships along with Shane McMahon in front of a jam-packed Chase Field crowd at the Royal Rumble Pay-Per-View. However, The A-Lister has fallen significantly below the card ever since that win.
If we have a look at the PPV matches The Miz has had since WWE Royal Rumble 2019, his and Shane’s title reign ended at Elimination Chamber before the duo split at Fastlane.
They battled in singles matches at WrestleMania and Money In The Bank with The Miz losing both of them. He then lost in the 50-man battle royal at Super Showdown and, has not made it to a PPV match card since that night i.e. 7th June 2019.
This record depicts how low The Miz’s stock has fallen but recently, WWE Creative has inserted him into the Intercontinental Championship picture. The Most Must-See superstar will go toe-to-toe with Shinsuke Nakamura for the coveted title at Clash of Champions next.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Though the new heel duo of Nakamura and Sami Zayn seems to dominate The Miz every week, here are four reasons The Artist should lose his title at Clash of Champions -
#4 To make up for the momentum The Miz has lost since January
When The Miz turned face and joined hands with Shane McMahon, everyone knew that Shane would turn heel soon but nobody expected him to go over The A-Lister in two pay-per-view matches.
This feud killed all the momentum that The Miz had and the company has failed to rebuild him after the defeats.
He even lost in the first round of the King of the Ring Tournament but now that he has ignited a rivalry with Shinsuke Nakamura, WWE should allow him to win the title. This championship win will boost The Miz's momentum besides giving him an interesting storyline to work in.
Also, it has been a long time since The Miz won a singles title in WWE. Given that he is a veteran of the squared circle and a pro on the microphone, it is surprising that the writers have kept him away from the title scene for over a year.
While Shinsuke Nakamura too has not had any momentum since his heel turn, he can gain back his prestige by having a feud with a veteran so talented as The Miz.
Who knows, the two Superstars may also pull off a double turn going forward because The Miz was better as a heel while the fans have always behind Nakamura, which leads me to my next point.
#3 Kick-off a series of matches between Shinsuke Nakamura and The Miz
As mentioned ahead, The Miz is a proven master of the WWE ring and has delivered spectacular performances in the ring. Though he does not take many risks or pulls off eye-popping moves, his in-ring work is always a joy to watch. The fans always dreamed to see a match between The Miz and The King of Strong Style, Shinsuke Nakamura in WWE.
Now that WWE has finally decided to book this rivalry, they should try to extend this feud and have a series of matches. The most simple way of building a big feud is to book a title change along with adding some new layers to the storyline.
If WWE does not want a double turn storyline (which they should, in my opinion) perhaps, we can have one face Superstar join forces with The Miz to level the odds against Nakamura and Zayn after The A-Lister captures the championship.
It has been quite a while since Shinsuke Nakamura has actually been in a mainstream match on a pay-per-view. The writers can have a tag team match at the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view before a blow-off match at Crown Jewel to end the feud. This will give a good amount of spotlight to The Artist, who has been lost in the mix of late.
#2 Elevate the Intercontinental Championship
After John Cena's United States Championship open challenge received a positive response from the fans, the writers made it a tradition for the face Superstars holding mid-card championships to put their title on the line every week. Not only did this move add more value to the TV episodes but it also added a sense of unpredictability to the regular scheme of things.
For example, Dolph Ziggler's win over Seth Rollins last year sent shock waves in the WWE Universe as The Showoff won the Intercontinental Championship out of nowhere. It is hard to imagine a heel Superstar issuing an open challenge and with both the mid-card champions being heels, it would be great if The Miz wins the Intercontinental title from Nakamura.
The Miz has had stellar feuds as a heel Intercontinental Championship in the past so, he could either have one-on-one rivalries with upcoming talents or keep his title on the line every week in by issuing an open challenge.
These changes will help in elevating the Intercontinental Championship which has been largely ignored of late.
Have a look at this 'Match of the Year' candidate featuring Kevin Owens and the then Intercontinental Champion, Seth Rollins which happened on a RAW episode.
This ignorance has been one of the major reasons behind Nakamura's fall but, WWE have a chance to resurrect it by giving The Miz the championship and insert Nakamura in a rocking feud with him.
#1 Level Chris Jericho's record of most Intercontinental Championship reigns
Chris Jericho owns the record of having the most Intercontinental Championship reigns (nine) in WWE history with The Miz just one reign short of leveling Y2J's record. Given that he has joined WWE's rival promotion now, Vince McMahon would have planned to break Jericho's record somewhere in his mind.
We saw how he allowed Brock Lesnar and Pete Dunne to break CM Punk's record of the longest title reign in the modern era. Hence, he can always allow one of his most loyal employees, The Miz to break Chris Jericho's long-standing record.
Though there have been no rumors about why The Miz has returned to the Intercontinental Championship picture, it is likely that this record might be a reason behind The A-Lister's rivalry with Shinsuke Nakamura.
If The Miz wins the Intercontinental Championship at Clash of Champions, it will be his 9th title reign and who knows WWE may book frequent title changes to make him the first ever 10-time Intercontinental Champion in WWE history!
