Could we see an Ambrose-Jericho feud in the near future?

Since the feud between Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens seems to be over and Ambrose is unlikely to win the triple threat match to be the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, it seems that Dean Ambrose is without a serious opponent or a match at Wrestlemania.

Jericho has no current ongoing serious feud either. With the lack of top WWE superstars going into Wrestlemania due to injuries, a feud between Ambrose and Jericho could be beneficial to the line up.

But why would WWE put Ambrose and Jericho in a feud against each other?

Firstly, they have a history. In September last year at the Night Champions pay per view, Chris Jericho was the surprise tag team partner to Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns when they collided with the Wyatt family.

Jericho blind-tagged himself into the match, which then cost them the win as Jericho tapped out to Braun Strowman’s head arm triangle. After costing the team the win, Jericho seemed less than pleased and stormed out of the ring bumping into Ambrose as he left.

The following night, Ambrose and Jericho shared a brief confrontation, however, the feud was never pursued further.

Secondly, Jericho takes his opponents to a whole new level. There is no doubt that in the past Chris Jericho has had some incredible feuds – The Rock, Stephaine McMahon, Triple H, Shawn Micheals and CM Punk being on that list. Jericho has this natural ability to take Superstars to a whole other level, bringing a new side to their characters.

For example, Jericho’s feud with CM Punk in 2012, leading up and after Wrestlemania 28. CM Punk at the time was the WWE Champion and Chris Jericho was the challenger for the WWE championship.

Week after week, Jericho cut a series of malicious and hard-hitting promos, claiming that CM Punk’s straight-edge philosophy was paranoia to avoid the same vices his family – alleging that CM Punk’s father was an alcoholic and his sister was a drug addict.

Jericho claimed that once he won the title off of Punk, he would finally lead Punk to drink. This feud even went as far as getting CM Punk to take a field sobriety test on an episode of Raw. During the feud we saw a new side to Punk’s character, often displaying built up anger and lashing out at his opponents, due to Jericho’s promo’s being cut in a studio. We got to witness a somewhat what unhinged Punk.

With this being said, how could a feud like this possibly work in favour for both Superstars?

Jericho works better as a heel. With Dean Ambrose as popular as he is right now, he would come over very well. The crowd wouldn’t be divided putting a lot of attention onto Dean Ambrose. If WWE decided to go along the lines of a CM Punk/Jericho style feud, it would certainly be interesting for TV to have a feud like this again with possibly dark themes.

Whether or not this would work with WWE’s PG policy would remain an answered question. Nevertheless, with Dean’s current Lunatic gimmick, is one that WWE could have fun exploring.

Maybe the feud between them brings out a whole new, more erratic side to Ambrose. Ambrose is loyal, puts his body on the line every week no matter the consequences and is chaotic in his approach. WWE could have some fun with the feud if they chose to pursue it.

Jericho has mentioned in the past that he has wanted to work with Ambrose. It could also benefit Jericho being put up against Ambrose rather than some irrelevant mid-carder.

Another advantage of the Jericho/Ambrose feud would be that Jericho’s return is not wasted and is actually put to some good use. Maybe the two could have a match for the intercontinental championship?

It has been rumored for week, that WWE plans on turning Jericho heel and get into an Intercontinental title feud with Ambrose. That being said, could Jericho attack Dean Ambrose at Fastlane?

We’ll just have to wait and find out.
