In a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho, WWE legend Chris Jericho had a sit down with Edge and Christian – who are the hosts of the new show Totally Reeks of Awesomeness – and discussed a range of topics including Vince McMahon, Daniel Bryan and more.
When the topic of Daniel Bryan’s retirement popped up, the emotions were clearly felt in the room as both Edge and Christian had their flourishing wrestling careers abruptly cut short due to a spate of unfortunate injuries.
Edge confessed that he had already prepared for his retirement in his mind, which is why when the time came, it affected his fans more than it affected him. The Canadian wrestler stated that he had 20 wonderful years in the sport and had reached his peak, whereas Bryan retired with his best years ahead of him.

Christian, on the other hand, stated that he hasn’t technically retired and confessed that he hasn’t approached WWE officials regarding his future, but accepts that he’ll probably never enter the ring as a wrestler again. When asked if the duo had any reminders of their injury in recent times, both stated that there were some one-off instances.
When asked from where the concept of their new show originated, Edge stated that it stemmed up from their appearance on the unscripted SmackDown Anniversary show, which led to an interview on the Stone Cold podcast.
Soon after their appearance on the podcast, the duo was approached by Kevin Dunn, who pitched the concept of their own show to them.
They were intent on not making a conventional program, and drew inspiration from Key & Peele, Tosh.0, and Saturday Night Live while modelling their show. Edge and Chrisitan did confess that they found their funny side while working with Brian Gewirtz, the former head writer for Monday Night RAW.
On working with WWE CEO Vince McMahon, Edge stated that working with him and getting his stamp of approval would make their new show a hit. Edge was full of praise for McMahon, stating that he arrived at 11 AM sharp – the scheduled time for the shoot – and was ever willing to do whatever was asked of him.
McMahon also gave Edge and Chrisitan the liberty to run their show according to what they thought was best, which gave them ample freedom to operate.
