The Monday Night wars proved that shock value is a major factor when it comes to the wrestling business. Almost all the wrestling promotions have been following this motto for a long time now and it is a mainstay when it comes to big shows like pay-per-views.
WWE will be looking to deliver something similar on Sunday as they bring Elimination Chamber from the American Bank Center in Texas. There was a certain lack of buildup for the pay-per-view due to time limitations and WWE could put all that behind, if they pull off some impressive twists at the show. The current match card does have a lot of potential for the same and here is a look at the options WWE could explore.
Samoa Joe Interference
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
The WWE fans are still pretty much in the hangover of Samoa Joe’s debut down in NXT. The former TNA World Champion made a big appearance at NXT Takeover and drew battle lines with Kevin Owens. WWE is apparently going all guns blazing into the feud between these two and they could take it out for Elimination Chamber as well.
Owens will be facing John Cena for the United States Championship at the show and WWE will be looking for a result where no one gets buried.
And that is where Samoa Joe comes into play. If he interferes and costs Owens the match a lot of things happen. First of all, there is new found heat on their feud, then Joe gets a big exposure and at the same time, WWE could keep the title on Cena.
Surprise winners for Tag Team Match
Although WWE is bringing in six tag teams for the Elimination Chamber, only two teams are credible enough to walk out of the Chamber with the title. First would be the reigning Tag Team champions New Day while the second is Tyson Kidd and Cesaro.
The chances of other four teams winning the title are pretty low which in turn makes it a big twist if any of those teams actually wins it. The Ascension in particular will be the biggest surprise. The fans did have hopes of seeing them as champions during their debut period but at this moment, they will be least expecting the Ascension to become champions.
Lana goes to square one
The friction between Rusev and Lana has been one of WWE’s major angles for the past couple of weeks. They will be playing this up for Elimination Chamber as well since all the protagonists will be present for the Intercontinental Champions.
As things stand now, Lana is supposed to be in the corner of Dolph Ziggler for the match but what if she ends up screwing Ziggler? It is a big possibility and could serve as a pretty good twist at the pay-per-view. The turn will give Lana some new found heat and letting Rusev win the Intercontinental title will keep him relevant for the time being. Ziggler on the other hand, as usual, will get buried. No surprise there.
All three in For New Day
The Tag Team championship match on Sunday has drawn a lot of attraction lately. There is obviously a lot of excitement surrounding the match and as mentioned earlier, it is going to be a face-off between two teams at the end of the day.
Speaking of which, New Day is the party of interest here. All the other teams will be coming in with two members into the chamber while New Day has a possibility of having three.
WWE is yet to acknowledge anything about all three members of the faction inside the chamber but if they manage to pull this off, then it is sure to raise one or two eye-brows. It would also iron out the ‘unfairness’ factor that New Day has been shouting about over the last few weeks.
Dean Ambrose wins WWE Championship
The whole purpose of this Network exclusive edition of Elimination Chamber is for the promotion of WWE Network (if you hadn’t figured it out yet). WWE wants fans to be convinced that anything could happen at the Network which in turn is supposed to get them more subscribers. What is the biggest thing that they could do in a Network Exclusive show? Crown a New WWE World heavyweight champion of course.
Ambrose and Rollins are going to have one hell of a match at the show on Sunday and letting Ambrose win would go down as the biggest possible twist on the night.
The Lunatic Fringe is clearly over with the fans big time right now and letting him hold the title ahead of SummerSlam will draw no complaints whatsoever. WWE could still pull off the Seth Rollins vs. Brock Lesnar match without the title, giving them more major programs for the biggest show of Summer.
