Pulling off an Extreme Rules pay-per-view in the current PG Era is not a cake walk. Although WWE could decorate the match card with some gimmick matches, there is still a long way to go before actually living up to the ‘Extreme’ tag that they use. Due to this fact, despite the strong card, there will be an extra layer of pressure on WWE to deliver on Sunday Night.
Extreme Rules might not be one of the most important WWE pay-per-views on the calendar but thanks to the recent developments after WrestleMania, the relevance of the show has indeed risen. And now, we are going to take a look at some decisions that WWE should avoid at the show.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
#5 New Day retaining
The reign of New Day has exceeded expectations. The team managed to be the most over stable in the promotion and at the same time, the entertainment quotient in their segments also kept fans on the seat. What this means is that New Day does not need any championships to keep them relevant in the WWE programming.
The Vaudevillains, on the other hand has a different story altogether. From their debut itself, they were bombarded by the critics and it was a surprise when the team got a shot at the tag titles so early into their main roster run. They need the title more than New Day and it would be the right decision to let them win it rather than New Day retaining.
#4 The Club losing
Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows have been getting a strong booking since their debut. However, if we take a look-back, they’ve been easily run over by Roman Reigns on numerous occasions. The elimination match that WWE recently had on Raw was an example.
The Club will face off against the Usos in a Tornado Tag Team match at Extreme Rules and a dominating win is what the fans want. Anderson and Gallows have a great future ahead of them apart from the ongoing AJ Styles vs. Roman Reigns feud and if WWE needs to build up on that, they should give the duo a strong win over Usos at Extreme Rules.
#3 The Ric Flair Interference
Natalya and Charlotte will be facing each other for the WWE Women’s Championship at Extreme rules. The match would be decided through submission and there is a lot of excitement surrounding the same. Ever since Charlotte became the Women’s champion, WWE has been using Ric Flair to uplift her. To an extent the idea worked and Charlotte got over as a good heel.
But at the same time, it showed WWE’s lack of confidence in the women. At Extreme Rules, Flair is banned from ringside and it should remain the same as the entire spotlight should be on the women rather than the high profiling Flair. Natalya and Charlotte deserve this and they are going to tear the roof down.
#2 Roman Reigns winning clean
One of the major problems that WWE had with Payback was the ending of its main event. Despite all the overbooking, Roman Reigns won the match clean and kick-started a big backlash in the WWE fan circle. Reigns apparently took a lot of finishers from AJ and all it took was a sphere from the Samoan to end the match.
It was clearly a case of missed booking from WWE and they should make it up this time around. There is no problem with Reigns winning, but the win of Reigns should not be clean like last time around. And if WWE wants to put the title on AJ Styles, it would be more than welcomed by the WWE Universe.
#1 Absence of Finn Balor
WWE have themselves a golden opportunity at Extreme Rules. The AJ Styles – Roman Reigns feud has ran its course and it’s time for WWE to find something new for both parties. From the looks of it, Reigns has many options like a returning Cena or a returning Seth Rollins. But for AJ, to find something bigger than Reigns requires some effort.
And the best option for AJ right now would be a feud with Finn Balor. WWE had been teasing the association of Balor and The club for quite some time and if they pull it off at Extreme Rules, it is going to make the show a success. The absence of Balor is something that should be avoided at the show if they want a memorable outing.
