The next pay-per-view outing of WWE, Extreme Rules is just a few days away. And thanks to some good booking and complex storytelling, WWE has managed to create a lot of buzz for the show and the fans will be awaiting it with a lot of expectations due to the same. WWE has a stacked card in terms of in-ring action and almost all of those matches are bound to deliver.
But unfortunately, the pay-per-view should be decorated with some bold booking decisions if it is to reach the bar of expectations that the WWE Universe has set. In this list, we are going to take a look at some of those booking decisions that the fans would love to see in the 2016 edition of Extreme Rules.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
A bit of color
The word Extreme takes us back to those good old days of ECW. The promotion, which had a cult status in the wrestling business, was known for some hardcore matches that kept the fans in a sense of awe.
It is not a secret that the whole Extreme Rules gimmick is derived from ECW and if WWE wants to actually pay some respect for the defunct promotion, showing a bit of blood in the pay-per-view would be a great move. The usage of blood could add more drama to the already dramatic matches like the Reigns vs. AJ Styles match or the Chris Jericho vs. Dean Ambrose match.
At the same time, it would give the fans a feel that they are indeed watching a show that is named after a promotion like ECW.
Sin Cara turning on Kalisto
The Rusev vs. Kalisto feud will apparently run out of gas at Extreme rules. We might get to see Kalisto get an underdog win, or we might get to see Rusev become the new United States champion. Either way, Kalisto is going to need a new feud after the pay-per-view. And who could be a better opponent for Kalisto than Sin Cara.
The tag team is of no relevance at this moment thanks to a star-studded division and the next sensible step from WWE would be to split the team up and let them feud. For this, Sin Cara needs to turn heel at Extreme Rules and if he does, Rusev could move on to a high-profile feud next when Sin Cara and Kalisto could feud for the US title, or simply for the sake of their former friendship.
New Intercontinental Champion
The Intercontinental championship would be defended in a fatal four-way match at Extreme Rules. The Miz will be defending his championship against the likes of Kevin Owens, Cesaro, and Sami Zayn. While Miz is a strong candidate to retain the championship, it would be fresh to see a new champion being crowned at the show.
Owens was a recent champion so WWE should look into giving the title to either Zayn or Cesaro. Cesaro, who is getting a good push after his return, will benefit from the title reign. As for Zayn, his first major title in the main roster wouldn’t sound like a bad deal after all.
Charlotte and Natalya getting a long slot
WWE closed last week’s Raw with Charlotte and Natalya. This showed the importance that they are giving to this feud but this needs to be continued all the way to Extreme Rules as well. The Natalya vs. Charlotte match is clearly not going to headline the pay-per-view and will only get an undercard position.
But the thing is, no matter where this match is placed, WWE should give these two women a long slot so that they could tell an interesting story. Natalya and Charlotte is capable of stealing the show and with the absence of Ric Flair in place, the entire limelight would be shining on these two. The gimmick match adds more excitement as one of these two are bound to tap out.
AJ Styles winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
This is a dream scenario for most fans out there. Ever since AJ Styles made his debut in WWE, he has been booked brilliantly. He had a good feud with Chris Jericho first and then WWE put him in a battle with Roman Reigns. This one on one battle between Reigns and Styles soon morphed into a stable war and now, it has given us an exciting main event for Extreme Rules.
The match will surely be over booked by WWE but the headlines will be made by the winner of course. The chances of AJ winning the title are low, but if he does, it would be something that the fans will enjoy.
