MVP seems to believe that he is already the United States Champion just because he took Apollo Crews' Championship. Crews hasn't been seen on WWE TV for a number of weeks which has allowed MVP to claim that he is the Champion, but this weekend Montel Vontavious Porter will have the chance to back up his claim.

Apollo has been able to rest during his WWE absence in recent weeks and since Bobby Lashley came up short in his match against Drew McIntyre a few weeks ago at Backlash, it's easy to see MVP coming up short against Crews and it then causing some issues between the two men.
MVP seems to talk a lot about how much he can do for other WWE talent and cuts some interesting promos but he is yet to deliver on any of his promises. Perhaps a loss here for MVP has much better storyline purposes than a win and the fact that Apollo Crews was destined for a huge push under Paul Heyman's leadership on RAW could be a hint that he's got a little more to give as Champion before his title is taken away.
