One of the things that we know about Rey Mysterio is that leading into Extreme Rules match Seth Rollins, his WWE contract had expired. He has been working without a contract for some time and with the eye extraction, it allows the company to possibly determine his role and availability in the months following his Extreme Rules match with Seth Rollins.

Rey Mysterio is probably one of the biggest names in the world right now, among the wrestlers available to WWE at this point in time, and with the unavailability of Edge, he was elevated to this position at the Horror Show at Extreme Rules, because he brings in an older audience that may otherwise be disillusioned with the talent of today.

WWE now has time to renegotiate Rey Mysterio's contract after his match with Seth Rollins because, as we saw at Extreme Rules, he is still at the top of his game as a WWE Superstar
