WWE: Extreme Rules Predictions

We’re merely hours away from the Extreme Rules PPV, and the card has been finalized. Unfortunately, there won’t be a World title match during the PPV because of the concussion suffered by the champion, Dolph Ziggler. Instead, WWE came up with an alternative idea to put Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger in an “I Quit” match for the number one contender spot, which isn’t a bad thing by any stretch of imagination as these two performers are phenomenal athletes, and can easily deliver the match of the night. Coming to the WWE title situation, John Cena defends the title against Ryback, who will go into the event with the psychological advantage after laying Cena out for consecutive weeks. In this article, I give my predictions for the entire PPV.

Pre-show:

The Miz vs Cody Rhodes

Miz returned to the WWE after filming for the Marine 3, while Cody Rhodes is in the middle of nowhere when it comes to storylines and feuds. Rhodes deserves much better than to be on the pre – show, and sadly, I see Miz winning this bout, going over Cody clean. Why? Because WWE would want to push Miz once again, and this can be the beginning of things.

Winner: The Miz

Main show:

Chris Jericho vs Fandango

We’re done with the silly dance offs and poor booking. Come Sunday, Chris Jericho and Fandango will meet for the second time inside the squared circle. Fandango made his debut at WrestleMania against Chris Jericho, and consequently defeated the Ayatollah of Rock n’ Rolla to win his first match on the main roster. Expect a cracker of a match between the two phenomenal athletes, and I’m vouching for a Fandango win, and the WWE can claim he has never been pinned till now, and continue with the current storyline.

Winner: Fandango

Randy Orton vs Big Show in an Extreme Rules match

I don’t know what the story is between Orton and Show, and frankly, I don’t care because they don’t generate my interest. Orton has been lost in the shuffle, and it’s about time that Orton turns heel, but that won’t happen this Sunday, as this PPV will be out of his hometown. Expect Orton to pick up the win, and if we’re lucky enough, it will be the end of one of the most boring feuds in the current scheme of things.

Winner: Randy Orton

Sheamus vs Mark Henry in a strap match

Is the strap match a good stipulation? One can argue that it is between the two behemoths, as they can go out and do what they do best, and that is an all out brawl between Sheamus and Henry. The lead up to the match has been one guy attacking the other, but come Sunday, they can settle the scores inside the ring. I’m going with a Henry win this time, so that Sheamus can get the return victory during the Payback PPV next month.

Winner: Mark Henry

Team Hell No vs The Shield (Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins) for the WWE Tag team titles

This is one of the most interesting match ups on the card. The Shield is obviously ready to go to the next level, and that can only be done by putting some titles on them. Kane and Daniel Bryan have had a long run as the tag team champs, but it’s time for Bryan to go back to singles’ competition. This one is one of the easiest matches to predict on the card.

Kofi Kingston vs Dean Ambrose for the United States championship

The other member of The Shield, and the most impactful one at that, will get his chance to get one more title to the faction, as Ambrose looks to capture the prestigious United States title against Kofi Kingston. I am a huge fan of Ambrose, and one has to believe that the only reason why Kofi captured the title was to drop it to Ambrose during the PPV.

Winner and the new US Champion: Dean Ambrose

Alberto Del Rio (With Ricardo) vs Jack Swagger (With Zeb Colter) in an “I Quit” match for the number one contender spot for the World Heavyweight championship

Expect this to be a classic submission match, as both the competitors will look to make the other submit by saying the words “I Quit” to become the number one contender, and face Dolph Ziggler. Although going into the PPV the match is even-stevens, expect ADR to pick up the win, as a face vs heel match would make more sense than a heel vs heel match at the next PPV.

Winner and the new #1 contender: Alberto Del Rio

Triple H vs Brock Lesnar (With Paul Heyman) in a Steel cage match

This is arguably the most hyped match going into the PPV. Although the plans were for a Brock–Rock feud after WrestleMania, the Rock getting injured left the WWE no other option than to go for a rubber match between Brock and Hunter. A win/loss won’t matter for Hunter, but it will for Brock, as a loss for Brock would completely destroy his legitimacy as a monster. I’m hoping WWE will do the right thing and give the win to Brock Lesnar.

Winner: Brock Lesnar

John Cena vs Ryback for the WWE title in a Last Man Standing match

Going into the PPV, Ryback has the advantage, but I’ll be surprised if WWE decides to put the title on Ryback. Ryback is very green, and is abysmal on the mic. Until he gets a manager, he shouldn’t become the WWE champion, and since Cena won the title merely a month ago, WWE would not make him lose the title so soon.
