Back when Aiden English aligned himself with Rusev in September of last year, the vast majority of fans, as well as industry experts, predicted that either of the two would turn on each other sooner rather than later. Well, we were all dead wrong!
Despite often times having to settle being the third wheel in "Rusev Day" as both Rusev and Lana continued to shine on SmackDown Live, English stuck by his tag team partner and Rusev Day eventually became one of the most over acts in the business today. That's all well and good, however, English shockingly turned heel on Rusev at a time when Rusev Day had reached a crescendo in its journey to the top -- in simple words, they were poised to reach great heights together.
Much like the old adage goes -- A good friend can make for your worst enemy -- English, having been a close friend of Rusev, undoubtedly knows the latter inside out. English is also well aware of the fact that there's likely nothing more precious to Rusev than his loyal wife Lana -- and by disrupting Lana's routine and composure, English knows that he'd surely get that coveted mental edge over his Bulgarian opponent...
