Dean Ambrose has become one of the biggest fan favorites on the WWE roster. Two weeks from WWE’s pay-per-view Fastlane 2016, one of the only matches on the card is a Triple Threat match between Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns to determine who will face Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania. Most assume that this is a match Reigns will win to continue his lengthy feud with the Authority. But what if that weren’t the case? What if one of the other two men won the match? And since Lesnar seems headed for a feud with the Wyatt family, what if Ambrose was the winner? Also read: WWE Fastlane 2016: 5 bold predictions for the pay-per-viewHere are five reasons why it is a good idea.
#5 Durability
To say that injuries have become an issue for the WWE in the last few months would be an understatement. The list of men who have missed time for health reasons includes five of the last eight World Heavyweight Champions, plus several other top stars.
But despite working in various high-risk matches and spots, Dean Ambrose has remained active week in and week out. He’s gotten hurt, even taking a nasty head injury at Wrestlemania last year, but that hasn’t kept him from competing and competing at a high level.
#4 Story options
Dean Ambrose will clear the two-month mark as Intercontinental Champion heading into Fastlane, and that would make a victory for him even more intriguing, story-wise. Not wanting to gameplan for the “Lunatic Fringe,” Triple H could make life hard for him.
He could be forced to defend his title repeatedly on television and even lose it, or Triple H could make him choose between the white belt or his world title shot in an effort to free the title up for a Wrestlemania feud.
The best move, though, might be to have him carry the belt into Wrestlemania and even win the double championship.
#3 Wyatt connection
Dean Ambrose has crossed paths with Bray Wyatt in the past. In fact, the two feuded in late 2014 after Bray cost Dean a victory against Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell, and the two also squared off during Wyatt’s battles with Roman Reigns.
That’s important because there’s at least, a chance, Wyatt gets involved in the Fastlane match to further establish a program with Brock Lesnar. The Wyatts would almost certainly also target Reigns, but it’s completely believable that they might forget about Ambrose.
In fact, it wouldn’t even be out of the question that the Wyatts would see Ambrose as the preferable choice to win the match over the more “favored” Lesnar and Reigns.
#2 Fans would love it
Few could have predicted just how popular Dean Ambrose would become when the Shield broke up in June 2014, but he’s a legitimate superstar with the fans. Because of that, if he were to win to clinch a spot in the Wrestlemania main event, the crowd would go absolutely nuts.
Really, the WWE has been lacking such moments of late. Honestly, the last time the crowd had a result to go that crazy over might have been Daniel Bryan’s victory at Wrestlemania XXX, and that’s far too long.
#1 No one expects it
Dean Ambrose certainly isn’t expected to come out a winner from this match. As a matter of fact, a number of people have predicted that he’s really just in the match to eventually take the pinfall.
Because of that, it would be an utter shock to see him find a way to come out victorious.
The WWE has come a long way in the last year as far as not having results completely predicted before the event, but it would still be good to be completely surprised in a match of this magnitude.
