Fastlane was first brought in as a replacement for the Elimination Chamber PPV on the road to WrestleMania in 2015. Since then, Fastlane has been a March staple for WWE. With the PPV mere hours away, let's take a look at three of the greatest moments in Fastlane history.

#3 Triple H comes face to face with Sting

A supposed dream match

On the first edition of Fastlane, Triple H was set for a face-off against the vigilante, Sting, in what was going to serve as a preview for their epic showdown at WrestleMania 31.

The Game tried to entice Sting with a spot in WWE's Hall of Fame, as well as a chance to be immortalized on the WWE Network. Sting refused, leading to an irate Triple H grabbing his signature weapon, the sledgehammer. This didn't work out well for The Game as Sting had an answer in the form of his signature weapon, a baseball bat.

The segment ended with Sting locking in a Scorpion Deathlock on The Cerebral Assassin and challenging him to a match at WrestleMania.

#2 Goldberg wins the Universal title

At Fastlane 2017, Goldberg was set to face off against Kevin Owens for the Universal title. Owens had recently betrayed his longtime friend, Chris Jericho, in one of the greatest TV segments of all time.

The match didn't last long, as Chris Jericho interrupted the match, and the interference was enough for Goldberg to grab the opportunity and deliver a thunderous spear to a confused Kevin Owens.

And just in a matter of seconds, Goldberg had become the Universal Champion again, after more than a decade. The last time Goldberg had won a title was way back at Unforgiven 2003 when he defeated Triple H for the big gold belt.

This led to a grudge match between Owens and Jericho at WrestleMania, with Owens coming out on top. Goldberg lost his title to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, with Lesnar finally being able to pin Goldberg, putting an end to the rivalry.

Heading into WrestleMania 31, a white-hot Rusev defended his United States title against John Cena at Fastlane.

The back and forth lasted for a good while with Rusev failing to pin Cena on multiple occasions. It took a distraction by Lana to give Rusev an opportunity to hit a low blow to Cena. The cheap shot was followed by Rusev's signature move, The Accolade.

Cena was well known for never tapping out to his opponents, and this match wasn't going to be an exception. It took a while before Cena started to fade into unconsciousness. Finally, the referee stopped the match and awarded the win to Rusev via submission.

This led to another match at Mania, with Rusev entering the stadium in a tank. Unfortunately, he couldn't beat Cena this time and went on to lose his title, after Cena hit an Attitude Adjustment on Rusev.
