What's the story?
Recently, Kofi Kingston's WWE Championship opportunity was taken away from him by Vince McMahon. The Chairman decided to place Kevin Owens in the title bout at Fastlane instead, screwing Kingston out of the chance for, essentially, no reason. Tonight, McMahon told Kingston that he would be added to the match, only to be tricked into some punishment courtesy of The Bar.
In case you didn't know...
Kofi Kingston was inserted into the Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship last month after Mustafa Ali suffered an injury. After a strong showing in a gauntlet match and then in the chamber match, Kingston had the WWE Universe behind him. Though he earned a shot at Daniel Bryan's title by defeating him in a six-man match after the PPV, his spot on top didn't last long.

Kingston was set to sign the contract between him and Bryan for the championship bout at Fastlane. However, before Kingston could put pen to paper, Mr. McMahon interrupted the affair, taking Kingston out of the match and inserting Kevin Owens instead.
Tonight during the Fastlane Kickoff, Kingston was told that the McMahon Family wanted to meet with him to discuss the WWE Championship match.
The heart of the matter
Kofi Kingston made his way to the ring, ready for a WWE Championship match.
However, the ring crew was told after his entrance that it wasn't for the title, and in fact, Kingston would be facing The Bar in a handicap match. Kofi walked right into an ambush, and though the New Day tried to save him, they were taken down by Shinsuke Nakamura and Rusev.
What's next?
The New Day was laid out by Nakamura, Rusev, and The Bar in a brutal assault orchestrated by Mr. McMahon. Why he decided to do this to Kingston and the rest of the group is unknown, but we're sure to get an answer this Tuesday on SmackDown Live.
