In a recent interview, former WWE star and Hall of Famer Jim Duggan opened up about his widely publicized arrest along with rival Iron Sheik back in 1987 when they were right in the middle of a major feud – reports wrestlinginc.com.
The wrestler confessed that he wasn’t friends with Iron Sheik, whose real name is Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, but was merely giving his colleague a ride and was under the influence of marijuana and alcohol while driving, while the latter was high on cocaine when the cops pulled them up right before they were due to appear at a WWF event.
Although they did make it to the event without attracting any attention, it was only a matter of time before word spread about the incident.
A talk with Vince McMahon led to Duggan’s initial departure from WWF despite Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts trying to fix matters. Duggan was recalled by WWF later but his career never really took off after the arrest. However, the wrestler counts himself fortunate as an arrest like that could have very well led to the end of his wrestling days.
Sheik, on the other hand, was released by WWE – who had to prematurely end the feud between him and Duggan due to the scandal.
