This was one of the rare matches where everything was nearly perfect. It had a great build up, an awesome match and a shocking twist. Kevin Owens felt that he was screwed by the special guest referee Shane McMahon in his Summerslam match against AJ Styles. So he started taunting Shane's family. Shane retaliated by viciously attacking his employee. The next week, Vince McMahon came to SmackDown to make this match official and was attacked by Kevin Owens.
The match itself was brilliant. There were lots of hard-hitting action inside the Cell. However, the best part came when Shane O Mac decided they needed to step out of the cage to up the ante. Shane and Owens brawled from the top of the cage and Owens was put through an announcer's table. Shane decided to ascend the cell and repeat his action against the Undertaker at the previous year's Wrestlemania.
It was obvious that Kevin was going to dodge Shane's leap of faith. But WWE decided to throw another curveball when they made a certain individual to pull Kevin Owens from the trajectory of the fall. That certain individual was Sami Zayn. This was a wonderful turn of events that would also help Sami to ascend to the SmackDown main event scene within a couple of months.
