WWE History: 5 Attitude Era segments that went too far

The famed attitude era was a time when wrestling was extremely hot and cool, and one key factor that allowed this was that WWE was pushing beyond the envelope with edgy angles which bordered on reality.

There was a lot of fantastic angles during this time which contributed to its success along with focusing on the entire roster.

However, not every idea was great, and some went far beyond any form of enjoyable taste. So below are 5 of the most horrific angles ever devised from the attitude era that defaced an otherwise terrific era.

#5 Big Boss Man feeds Al Snow his dog

The Attitude Era was home to a lot of tasteless or offensive storylines, but this one always sticks out the most to me.

It's simply explained, Al Snow replaced Head with a chihuahua named Pepper. Big Boss Man later kidnapped the dog Pepper, and the two had a match in which if Snow won, Pepper would be returned to him.

Snow lost, but Big Boss Man invited Snow to have dinner with him in his hotel. The dinner, as you guessed it, turned out to be Pepper, the dog.

The whole idea was horrific especially in Western culture after Al Snow ate his dog, Boss Man and Al Snow fought in a horrendous Kennel From Hell match at WWE Unforgiven 1999.

The match consisted of a steel enclosure, with the ring surrounded by “vicious” dogs, let's just say it was horrific.

Nobody cared about either of these guys before, during, or after this angle, and when you consider the immense level of talent on the roster and how wrestling was about to hit its true boom period, it's probably best to forget a storyline like this ever happened.

#4 Hawk jumps off the titantron

We are well aware of the issues of drugs and alcohol within the wrestling industry. Road Warrior, Hawk, was suffering badly at the time with the same syndrome.

WWE took advantage of this situation, and with the rise of more edgy and real contents, Legion of Doom was given a storyline in which Animal began to question his tag partner Hawk's wrestling ability and commitment to wrestling.

The idea was that Hawk would start showing signs of someone high on drugs, which would lead to the team breaking up and feuding with each other.

The most horrific moment of this whole angle came when Hawk became so upset over the split that, the next night on "RAW," he got high again and attempted suicide on live TV by jumping off the top of the titantron.

Unfortunately, the controversial angle could not garner any interest from the fans and failed to increase the ratings.

#3 Big Boss Man ruins Big Show's father's funeral

Death is a very touchy and emotional subject to cross and cover.

After the Boss Man’s questionable Pepper storyline, Boss Man moved onto another horrific storyline involving the Big Show and his father.

Within the story, the Big Show found out that his father was terminally ill with cancer. The Big Boss Man had one of his police officers inform the Big Show that his father had passed away, which of course wasn’t true.

A few weeks later, Lilian Garcia announced that the Big Show’s father had passed away and proceeded to do a 10 bell salute and announced the funeral would take place the following weekend.

During the funeral, The Big Boss Man turned up in a police car, ran over The Big Show and attached the coffin to the back of the car, and proceeded to drive away, dragging Big Show who had jumped on the coffin, with him.

A very distasteful segment, that you can’t help but laugh at.

#2 Choppy choppy your pee pee

Val Venis debuted in the WWE in mid-1998 as an adult film star and a womaniser. His first major feud was with the stable Kaientai.

Venis started an affair with Yamaguchi-San’s wife which attracted the attention of the entire stable. An angry Yamaguchi-San demonstrated what he wanted to do to Venis, with a sword – “Choppy, Choppy Your Pee Pee!”.

After Taka Michinoku (Kai En Tai's nemesis and Yamaguchi's brother in law) turned on Val Venis, Kaientai dragged Val backstage, stripped him naked, and tied him with a rope hanging from the ceiling. We were then treated to the lovely visual of Venis’ Pee Pee being removed by a sword, which was wrong on so many levels.

#1 Katie Vick

Of course, it’s this.

Undoubtedly the worst storyline in WWE history that presented nothing and accomplished nothing.

For those who don’t know about this storyline, let me give you the cliff notes: Triple H and Kane were having a champion vs. champion feud in the WWE in which Triple H accused Kane of murdering his girlfriend named Katie Vick in a drunk driving incident.

If that wasn't bad enough, the WWE added some extra flavor to it, and aired a skit in which Triple H, dressed as Kane, had an intimate scene with a mannequin in a casket, and uttered the line “I screwed your brains out”, then threw the “brains” into the camera lens.

The absolute worst storyline in company history, there has never been and never will be a storyline as awful as this.
