The backstory
Brock Lesnar is all set to wrestle a match on SmackDown Live after what seems like ages. Lesnar wrestled his last SmackDown match on the March 5th, 2004 episode of the blue show, defeating Hardcore Holly in quick fashion. Mere days later, he would meet Goldberg in his final WWE match at the time, at WrestleMania 20. But how did this dream match came into being?

At No Way Out 2004, Goldberg interfered in the WWE title match between Lesnar and Eddie Guerrero, which resulted in the latter managing to pin Lesnar in one of the biggest upsets in WWE history. This was in response to Lesnar costing Goldberg a shot at the World Heavyweight title, by interfering in the Royal Rumble match and hitting an F5 on him.
On the following episode of SmackDown, Lesnar came down to the ring and it seemed like there was no energy left in The Beast. He slowly walked to the ring and addressed the events of No Way Out.
This was an incredibly bizarre segment, which showed Lesnar in a completely different light. He talked about how the WWE title was his life, and that Eddie didn't deserve the belt. By this point, Lesnar's voice was getting hoarse, and it seemed like he would burst into tears any second. Lesnar then added that he doesn't understand why the fans treat him with disrespect.
Lesnar continued, stating that Eddie's day will come, but he will target Goldberg first. Then, in one of the strangest moments in SmackDown history, Lesnar begged Vince McMahon to give him Goldberg at WrestleMania 20.
"Mr. McMahon, I'm begging you from the bottom of my heart... please, please, at WrestleMania 20, give me Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg!"
As soon as Lesnar finished his sentence, he broke into tears, and left the ring in a state of dejection.
The aftermath
Lesnar met Goldberg at WrestleMania 20, with Stone Cold Steve Austin acting as the special referee. Following Goldberg's win, Austin hit Lesnar and Goldberg with Stunners. Lesnar immediately left WWE, not to return for the next eight years.
