At the start of the match, Stone Cold took Hart down, and both of them began beating each other brutally. They fought in the midst of the crowd with fans surrounding both of them. Hart worked on Austin's legs, while he tried to hit a stone cold stunner at him.
Austin also attempted a sharpshooter, but Bret countered with a thumb to the eye of Austin. There were a lot of moments when Stone Cold looked in trouble, but he continued with the fight.
In the end, Austin passed out from loss of blood and pain thereby conceding the match to Hart. But Hart went on hitting Austin so the referee Ken Shamrock intervened and challenged Hart to fight him. Hart left the ring to the chorus of boos.
Austin left the ring with a standing ovation from the crowd. This was possibly the best match of all time.
