WWE/Indie News: Rey Mysterio is All In

Rey
Rey Mysterio is ALL IN

What’s the story?

Well, after months of speculation that Rey Mysterio may well be returning to WWE after huge appearances in the Royal Rumble and Greatest Royal Rumble Matches saw the Master of the 619 receive rousing ovations, it looks like that rumour may officially be well and truly put to bed - at least for now.

After confirming his NJPW debut for later on this year, Rey Mysterio has now also been confirmed for what may well go down in history as one of the biggest indie events ever, with the Young Bucks confirming the WWE legend is All In.

In case you didn’t know…

Rey Mysterio is a true veteran of the squared circle and made his shock WWE return earlier this year as part of the 2018 Royal Rumble Match, but that turned out to only be a one-off appearance as Mysterio continued to work for the now defunct Five Star Wrestling and other select indies before confirming his debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Mysterio was originally scheduled to compete against Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger at NJPW's first ever Strong Style Evolved show - which took place on the 25th of March at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California - but an unfortunate injury put a halt to those plans, and seemingly poured cold water on the rumours of a more permanent WWE return, too.

The high-flyer, however, then appeared again for WWE when he participated in the first ever 50-man Royal Rumble Match at The Greatest Royal Rumble event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and, while plans can always change, it looks like that was also a one-off with Mysterio now confirmed to finally make his NJPW debut and now compete at All In.

The heart of the matter

Today saw the official press conference for All In ahead of tickets going on general sale and, well, it was...not uneventful. At all.

Streaming live on Facebook and Twitch just hours ahead of tickets going on sale, we saw a small set up of a press conference in a stock room at Pro Wrestling Tees store where a select group of fans cheered for Cody Rhodes, Billy Corgan, Tessa Blanchard, Adam Page, Marty Scurll and Flip Gordon.

We saw some scuffles and heard a lot about what may go down at the event (aside from actual match announcements) but the big news came when the Young Bucks were up last.

Well, actually, it came AFTER they spoke. Matt and Nick Jackson thanked the fans and spoke about their accomplishments as wrestlers existing outside the WWE, before taking to social media immediately after the event to confirm a huge name for their self-funded event.

While this "cryptic" post doesn't take too much thought to decipher, the official event page then posted the same image and tagged Mysterio, Cody Rhodes and the Bucks.

Rey Mysterio is seemingly now confirmed to be on the show, which takes place in Chicago's Sears Centre on Labor Day weekend.

What’s next?

Well, with All In less than four months away, you can bet the announcements will now start rolling in more frequently in the build to the event.

As for Rey Mysterio, the WWE legend is currently scheduled to compete for NJPW later next month at their Dominion pay-per-view, Mysterio’s long-awaited debut for the company ironically falls on June 19th - or 6.19.

Author’s take

Well, this is a huge "get" for All In, and after the rumours that emerged yesterday of a possible CM Punk appearance, you can get tickets for this event will be flying out as soon as they're on sale. I can't wait to watch!
