What’s the story?
As reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet earlier, ex-TNA star Chase Stevens was arrested last month after an assault on Brian Christopher, also known as Grand Master Sexay, left the former WWE star needing surgery.
In case you didn't know...
Brian Christopher Lawler is the son of the legendary Jerry "The King" Lawler and is best known for his run in WWE alongside Scotty 2 Hotty where the pair won the Tag Team Championships as Too Cool, later to be joined with WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi.
Chase Stevens, however, is best known for his work in TNA and is a former three-time NWA Tag Team Champion alongside Andy Douglas where they made up The Naturals.
The heart of the matter
Pro Wrestling Sheet reported earlier today that Stevens, real name Jonathan Ryan Clark, was taken into custody on 18 February in Indiana after an altercation with Brian Christopher left the latter needing surgery after suffering several broken bones in his face.
The former WWE star reportedly entered the lobby of the hotel the pair were staying at with severe injuries - described as “swelling all over, an approximate two-inch laceration to his right brow, orbital eye socket discoloration to both eyes, bleeding from the nose, abrasions and noticeable front tooth dental injuries.”
After officers entered the hotel room, Stevens reportedly told police Lawler had caused the pair problems at nightclubs earlier that night and refused to go to sleep on the floor of the hotel room. The former TNA star admitted to punching Lawler twice in the face but claimed those strikes were in self-defence and added that Lawler had also fallen and hit the ground.
Officers noted in the report, “There was visible blood stains on the carpet floor, a small amount of blood smears on the wall and a small amount blood spatter on the sheets. The trash can inside the room had blood and tissue in it as well.”
The report added that Lawler said he was attacked for no reason but was very confused. The physician reported that Lawler had several broken bones in his face, broken teeth and that surgery was required. Officers were told that a trauma team had been activated after Lawler’s injuries had been evaluated.
Lawler reportedly wanted to pursue charges against Chase Stevens, who was taken into custody. A witness in the room told police that the former WWE star was drunk and causing a scene and that Stevens hit him more than once to “calm Lawler down”.
It was also reported that prior to surgery, Brian Christopher told police that Stevens thought he was making an advance on the witness, Stevens’ girlfriend, but Lawler said this was not the case.
What’s next?
Brian Christopher Lawler was reportedly released from the hospital days after the assault and Chase Stevens is no longer in jail. Neither wrestler has commented publicly on the incident.
Author’s take
I think the less said about this in terms of opinion, the better until either wrestler comments, but the report is pretty damning and it's never nice to hear about this kind of thing.
