The New Day has been the biggest revelation in the WWE’s often criticised tag team division.
The team comprising of Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods started out as a baby faces, but negative fan reaction forced the WWE Creative to turn them heel and the trio have never looked back since.
Kofi Kingston recently talked to Techtimes.com about how much he enjoys being part of the group, their upcoming title defence against the Dudleys at Hell in a Cell and also some funny stories on the road.
New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE
Kingston said that the three of them used to be “Dudleys’ fans” and while it was “awesome” to see them come back to the WWE, the veterans had a problem with the New Day just because they were tag team champions.
Kingston continued to say that “it’s not cool” what the Dudleys did to Xavier Woods on Raw, power bombing him through a table. He went on about the Dudleys and sai, “I know a lot of people have been enjoying them now, but we can’t let them become tag-team champions because they are everything that’s wrong with the WWE in terms of their regard of furniture, respecting the champions and their demeanor. They got a bad attitude and The New Day doesn’t like that.”
The former Intercontinental champion also said that the chemistry he has with the other members of the New Day was because of the fact that they travel together every week on the road.
He proceeded to compare their equation to that of “seventh-grade chemistry class when you’re just learning about hydrogen, oxygen and putting it all together to get H2O—water—and it flows smoothly. “That’s what The New Day does when we get together”, said Kingston.
Kingston also shared a funny story about Xavier Woods. Woods lost a bet among the three on the road and as a result, was forced to go into hotel at night and convey to the lady at the counter that they needed a room to stay for the night – in a British accent.
Here are the words straight from Kofi – “...the consequence was Xavier had to do all of the booking of the rooms and checking in with an English accent. So, he comes in at like 4 in the morning with an English accent and the lady [at the hotel] isn’t trying to hear it.”
He added, “So, he’s talking [in English accent], ‘I need to check in, my name is Xavier’ and the lady is calming him down and telling him to be quiet. The funny thing is she called E the wrong name, which we still call him to this day. When we go to Hotwire and fill something out, we put in Etmore. She kept calling him Etmore and that kind of stuck.”
