Despite being a fair bit away, WWE is already shaping up this year's SummerSlam Premium Live Event. For those who might not know, this year's Biggest Party of the Summer is set to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Cleveland Browns Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.
Amid this build-up, fans strongly believe that CM Punk could headline SummerSlam for the first time in 12 years.
Over the past few months, The Best in the World has been engaged in a heated rivalry with Drew McIntyre. Despite being currently away from the ring due to a Tricep injury, Punk has actively managed to cost The Scottish Warrior some big opportunities, with Clash at the Castle: Scotland being the latest on that list.
However, McIntyre succeeded in getting his own back when he brutally assaulted The Voice of the Voiceless during the recent episode of the blue brand, resulting in Punk being stretchered to an ambulance.
Considering their next-level boiling feud, fans strongly believe that the first-ever clash between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre could main event SummerSlam 2024. As of writing, WWE has not officially announced their bout, but there is a high belief that both stars will settle their feud on August 3, 2024, at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
The last time Punk headlined SummerSlam was on August 14, 2011, more than 12 years ago. It remains to be seen how things will unfold in the forthcoming days and whether The Best in the World will main event the Biggest Party of the Summer 2024 or not.
There could be one big reason why CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre could fail to main event SummerSlam 2024
Despite the feud between McIntyre and Punk being thoroughly enjoyed by the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns' return could be a significant reason why their potential match might not main event the Cleveland PLE.
The Tribal Chief is expected to make his highly anticipated return at or around SummerSlam 2024. There is also speculation that Reigns could wrestle at this PLE against Solo Sikoa in a singles bout. This match could be set up when the former Undisputed WWE Universal Champion returns before SummerSlam, leading to a rivalry against The Enforcer of The Bloodline.
So, if Roman either wrestles or returns at The Biggest Party of the Summer, WWE might prefer him to main event the show rather than the first-time-ever showdown between Punk and McIntyre. This preference could be due to The Bloodline saga being a central point of attraction in the Stamford-based promotion for a long time.
