The Judgment Day faction in WWE currently appears leaderless, after the notable exits of Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley at SummerSlam 2024. The group currently is going through turmoil as there are significant disputes among the members.
What if a WWE legend, who has a real-life connection with one of The Judgment Day members, is announced as the leader of the group? It would give a huge boost to the faction. And the superstar in question could be none other than Rey Mysterio.
The Hall of Famer has never been a heel in the Stamford-based promotion since his debut in 2002. He was a heel in WCW when he joined Eddie Guerrero and Billy Kidman to form The Filthy Animals. But Rey has only portrayed a babyface in WWE.
Rey Mysterio can ally with his son Dominik and then announce himself as the leader of The Judgment Day. That would be something new for the 49-year-old star who is also in the twilight of his wrestling career. The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion is currently the leader of the LWO group, a faction he revived in 2023. The Master of 619 has feuded with his son Dominik in the past and the two even had a singles match at WrestleMania 39.
Being the leader of LWO, there isn't much for Mysterio to accomplish with the group. It would be great if he turned heel, and then took Judgment Day faction in a new direction.
Mysterio revealed that he even pitched the idea of turning heel to former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon once. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, the Hall of Famer said that he wanted to turn on Dominik, but the idea didn't materialize.
"I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together, I brought it up to Vince and it was brief. Like maybe I turn on Dom and we continue with something along the ways. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like no, you’re the babyface that could never be a heel. Like you're Ricky Steamboat, nobody can ever see you as a heel, I don't think they would buy into it,: Rey said on theopodcast. [H/T: Fightful Select]

Former WWE SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long has also advocated for Rey turning heel. During one of the episodes of Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine, hosted by Mac Davis, Teddy pitched the idea of Rey turning heel. He stated that considering the diversity of storylines he has been part of, getting into a villainous character would breathe fresh life into him.
"I just don't know man. They have done quite a bit with Rey, and you know what I mean, they have really got to come up with something... To try to you know, get him back out there again. I don't know, this maybe sounds crazy but if it was me, I'd turn him heel."

As Rey's in-ring career is towards the end, Triple H might think of taking a risk with his character by turning him heel. Let's wait and watch whether it happens or not.
