WWE: Midcarders in desperate need of a push

Its a very cruel world in the WWE. You need to cover all bases if you are to be recognized as a top notch talent in the industry. One single loop hole can send your career vertically down the drain in a matter of weeks.

Week in week out, we see many new talents adorning the WWE ring, each one unique in his own rights. Some of them are destined for greatness whereas others just need that legitimate ‘push’ to take their talent to the next level. Let us take a look at these so called ‘mid carders’ who can make it big in the industry.

Cody Rhodes

New Champs in WWE! More RIGHT HERE

Cody has a wealth load of experience coming from a wrestling family. His father Dusty Rhodes and his brother Goldust were legendary in-ring performers. He himself has garnered over six years of experience , making his debut way back in 2006.

He initially was a part of the ‘Legacy’ stable with Dibiase and Orton and feuded with the likes of D Generation X. He then proceeded to becoming a successful single’s wrestler with his self conscious ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes gimmick and also won the WWE Intercontinental title and held it close to 8 months.

He feuded with various superstars, but was unable to receive any deserved crowd reaction. He was again repackaged to the tag team division, this time with newcomer Damien Sandow and they were dubbed as ‘Team Rhode Scholars’. They were pretty successful as a team, but it all came crashing down after Sandow shoved Rhodes to win the MITB ladder match.

The WWE did two things wisely here, one was to push Sandow to the next level. The other, giving some direction to Rhodes’s career. The next week on RAW, Rhodes attacked Sandow much to the crowd’s delight for the betrayal he faced. In the process turning him ‘face’, something Rhodes has never done all his WWE career.

This instant change of character and the fact that the crowd took a liking to him was pretty surprising. With Sandow anticipated to face Rhodes at SummerSlam for the World Heavyweight Championship contract, its high time the WWE cashes in on the idea and utilizes the underrated Rhodes. He is a technically sound performer and possesses good mic skills. He has wrestled the likes of Daniel Bryan, Big Show and Booker T, bringing his ‘A’ game to the party on more then one occasion. He can also boast of a Wrestlemania 27 win over Rey Mysterio.

With all bases covered, Rhodes has the makings of a future world champion.

Antonio Cesaro

Antonio Cesaro

Switzerland can certainly be proud of a lot of things it has brought to the world. Ranging from the likes of watches to tourism to chocolates to even Roger Federer. One more accolade they can add to that list would perhaps be Antonio Cesaro.

A typical pound-for-pound performer, Cesaro is certainly one of the most physically gifted superstars in the WWE. Since making his debut in 2012, Cesaro has done nothing but impress match after match. Like Cody Rhodes, he too is a one time champion, winning the United States Championship from Santino Marella which I would hardly even dub as a contest.

He then feuded with The Miz and Kofi Kingston for the rest of the year, losing the title to the latter on RAW. He is currently a part of the ‘Real Americans’ stable with Zeb Colter and former world champion Jack Swagger.

What makes Cesaro a top notch wrestler is his versatility in offence. He can lift the biggest in the business with ease and also deliver suplex after suplex with utmost perfection. He is multilingual as well and that adds to his mic skills. Even though he was recently dubbed as ‘boring’ by a few WWE officials, he deserves a push nonetheless. He is reduced to someone who squashes jobbers in WWE’s developmental circuit, which is a shame to someone of his calibre.

He certainly has all the skills necessary to become a future champion. However, if they continue making him do what he currently does, he will become just another Vladimir Kozlov.

Kofi Kingston

For someone who made his debut just around 6 years ago, Kofi has achieved quite a lot in the WWE. He has won every single singles and doubles championship titles there is to win in the men’s category except for the WWE and the World Heavyweight championships, also dubbed as titles that actually make the difference.

Kofi has been a firm fan favourite and a ‘face’ character throughout. He is perhaps the most athletic superstar in WWE currently. His top rope moves compiled with the innovation he adds to it makes him a ‘must watch’ WWE superstar. But, he too, like many other bright talents, is currently direction-less in the WWE.

Kofi is not a smooth talker like others in his ranks, but his wrestling skills more than make up for it. His innovative moves in the Royal Rumble are remembered till this date. He tirelessly wrestles show after show, week after week and is certainly a proven performer. It is definitely time that the WWE gives Kingston his due and offer him a title shot. Now that he is recuperating from an injury, a new and relevant storyline will aid his cause when he returns.
